Question: Why did I spend all that time learning HTML? |
Answer: Because Pagebuilder wasn't available back then. |
Ok. This isn't a tutorial, just a quick overview. I am not affiliated with Yahoo or Geocities in any way. I just think it's great that there is a tool out there that allows anybody with a mouse to build very professional appearing websites. (since very few people seem willing to pay me to do it......haha) |
Pagebuilder is the greatest thing that's come down the pike in a long time. Just about anything you can do with HTML you can do in Pagebuilder. And, you don't have to be a rocket scientist (or even very bright) to use it. |
First, go to geocities.yahoo and register. It's free and will give you access to Pagebuilder as well as a basic and advanced HTML editor. So far, and I've been using it for almost 10 years, I haven't been spammed by them which is usually the case when you register for free stuff. |
Here's how to use it. |
You will get a File Manager. This is where you upload the files, pictures, graphics and whatever else you want to put on your pages. Uploading is easy. There is a button that reads "Upload." If you're already confused then maybe Pagebuilder is not for you. (And, I don't think you should be driving a car either). |

When you open Pagebuilder you will see a blank page and the menu above: |
All you're really concerned with, at first, are the following options: INSERT Use this to insert backgrounds, buttons, etc. ...just check out what's in there. FORMAT First thing you do is go in there and choose "Page Properties" and make the width "1024" and "Layer." (it'll make sense .................... when you see it) TEXT When you click "Text" a text box will open on the page (duh) and you will type your text in it and format it much as you do .....................in MSWord. The box will expand as you type or you can drag it to a larger size with your mouse. PICTURE Click "Picture" and it will let you choose stuff from your file manager or generic stuff. Again, you'll see when you click it. LINK Click , and highlight, anything that you want to be a hyperlink then click "Link" - fill out the box that comes up and it becomes a link. |
Those are the basics. Whatever appears on your blank page can be resized, superimposed over other stuff (layered), dragged around with the mouse, whatever. It's all stupidly easy. But, it's a very powerful app. Learn more about it by clicking "Help." |
Just mess around with it and you will soon be an expert. The only thing it won't do is frames...however, you can make pages with it to put in a frameset. (don't let this scare you cause you don't need frames anyway) If you have any problems with Pagebuilder email me and I'll be glad to help. |
