"My mom and I lived in a rundown one-bedroom apartment and we lived off very little money. I wrote this song [Keep On Keepin' On] because I knew I wasn't the only one going through hard times.

"It's so exciting. Everything is going so well."

"I remember singing for the ladies in the nail and hair salon my mama and aunt used to go to. They'd give me a dollar to sing and then I wouldn't stop. Then they'd be like, 'OK, kid, shut up'."

"I try not to style myself after anybody. I'm just trying to be myself."

"The video takes place in a school and basically the camera ... is the boyfriend, so I'm basically telling off the camera."

"It's [the video is] very colorful, and there's a lot of Boston references like Fenway High 'cause, you know, I'm from Boston, so I had to represent. ... It's kind of declaring your independence, girl power."

"It was really scary...but it felt fulfilling, like it was right. ... I think [Cosby] was a little surprised because I was a little girl singing Aretha Franklin, and I think he really liked it."

"Everything happened so fast. I recorded the album and worked with so many great people. ... We'd have secret handshakes and eat junk food. And it was a lot of work, too, [but] I just had so much fun."

"I think last summer was the best summer of my life, and I get kind of teary-eyed just thinking about it"

I would be writing songs in my notebook in school, when I really should have been thinking about math but I wasnt. I was always thinking about music.

Leave(Get Out) is just basically a song for all girls to declare their independence. Because, as I'm sure all females can relate to, boys will be boys at any age.

If I were a cookie I would be...oh my God, I have it, okay! I would be a sugar cookie with the M&M's inside, like the colorful M&Ms because I'm colorful and I'm sweet like sugar, and um, I like those cookies.

I was like...Oh my God! I had a little teenage moment there.

This is my life and this is what I love to do and it's my passion, and if I was doing anything else I think I would drive myself crazy.
