CURRENT ROSTER AND BIOS: WOMEN 132: KRYSTAL HARRIS. Senior from Houma, LA., she came to the team in February of 1999, with no prior lifting experience. She qualified in her first meet, and finished in the top 10 at the 2000 National Collegiates, her first. After eight months of training, we added another 130 pounds to her total for our home meet in December. This was her last season with the team, as she bows out of the Collegiate ranks due to her age, and she has plans to join the military. MEN 114: MARC BARBIER. Junior from New Orleans. This past year was Marc's first full year with us, and he is another Nicholls lifter with no prior experience. Marc has the distinction of having been the lightest competitor at every meet he lifted at last year. He finished in third place at the 2001 National Collegiates, his first also. In this his first year, he has managed to attain a bench press (165 @ 99#s) that earned him a spot on the USAPL TOP TEN list for the weight class. I dare say he will continue in the 114's for the coming year. 123: BRITT VALLOTT. Junior from New Orleans. Britt joined the team late in 2000, too late in fact to qualify for the 2000 Nationals. Britt finished in second place in 2001, narrowly missing a 3rd attempt deadlift that would have won it. This is Britt's first foray into lifting, also. Britt spent most of the year as a 132, and dieted down to make the class for nationals, which is a feat since he is nearly 5'9". That dieting took alot of didication, and his teammates did their best to not tempt him. Britt will probably move up to the 132's, but you never know... 148: DINO PIERCE. Senior from Cut Off, LA. Dino came to the team in May of 2000 looking to gain some size for bodybuilding aspirations, and since Powerlifting is all about competition, he qualified early in the 2001 season. He picked up on the fundamental differences in the two disciplines (Powerlifting vs. bodybuilding) and lifted his way into the top five of the weight class in 2001. This was Dino's only year lifting at Collegiate Nationals, as he went to the Navy right out of high school, and he turned 25 shortly after this year's Nationals. 181: BENJI KEMPTON. Senior from Avondale, LA. Benji is the old man of the team, having lifted in the 2000 Nationals as well as the 2001's. He joined alongside Harris in '99 and finished a dissapointing 13th in 2000. In the following season, having trained all summer like all Nicholls Lifters, he put together a National meet that not many others did: he went 8-9, missing only his 3rd squat. That day earned him a fourth place finish, and extended his streak of never losing to a Tech lifter. 181: DARRYL BRITTON. Sophomore from New Orleans. Darryl is another newbie to the sport, and like Pierce, spent some years in the military before attending college. Darryl will compete in the 2002 Collegiates. 198: STEVE LEBLANC. Grad Student from New Orleans. Steve is pursuing a doctorate in mathematics, and is too old to compete in the Collegiate Nationals, but he trains alonside all the team members. He has made great improvents in all his lifts. 220: MIKE THIBODEAUX. Junior from Lulling, La. So strong they named the town after him! Mike began in the summer of 2000, trimmed his physique and bulked his lifts, and now will compete in the 220's for the coming season. Mike is also the father of our one and only cheerleader, "Lil Swol". 275: ERIC MOODY. Junior from Mobile, Ala. Eric joined the team in May of 2001, so will not see action until the coming season. He was previously on the Nicholls Colonel Football Team that I train, and has to his credit a raw bench of 430 that will mesh him in quite well with the ranks of all the fine heavyweights in the Collegiate ranks. |
