Jorgito's Journal
July 27, 2005 - We're excited to report that Jorgito is doing very well.  We haven't had any identifiable seizure activity in several months, and he has been completely weaned off of the Phenobarbital for nearly a month now, so he's only on the vitamin B6 supplementation.  We can tell a difference in his responsiveness with larger doses of B6, and have just increased the dose accordingly.  Jorgito laughs easily and often, is playful and cheerful; he has "conversations" with us (his best sounds are "kuh" and "guh"), and has a good grasp of cause and effect (sneezes are followed with "bless you.")  He plays peek-a-boo with us, and has learned how to ring a bell or shake a rattle intentionally; he sometimes even coughs to get our attention!  Jorgito's physical and occupational therapy are focused on increasing his trunk strength so that he'll be able to sit up, along with encouraging him to bear weight on his hands and knees (as a prelude to crawling).  He has officially "graduated" from vision therapy and is meeting all milestones visually that he's supposed to!  We've just begun speech therapy in order to attempt to prevent or lessen the typical effect of Pyridoxine Dependency on speech (late talking, and speech difficulties).  We're working hard on the "easier" sounds - B, D, M and P (absolutely necessary for Mama or Papi!)  All in all, his progress has been incredible, and we can't wait to see what he does next!

July 2005 - We have finally been able to get an appointment in Seattle, Washington with Dr. Sidney Gospe at the Children's Hospital, who is considered by many to be the expert in Pyridoxine Dependency in the United States.  Our insurance company has approved our visit, and we are thrilled to be making the trip in August!
