Abraham Darby is a very special rose in my garden. It is truly fabulous! The size of the blossoms is enough to knock your socks off, but the fragrance is wonderful too. The soft peach-pink roses open hybrid tea-like at first, and then burst forth into huge, densely petaled orbs of nodding perfection. The foliage is medium green, glossy, and in my garden, free of blackspot disease until late summer. Even the bugs don't seem to have a taste for the polished leaves. Once new growth begins in the spring the shrub is very vigorous and productive. Combined, the first two flushes often times yield over 60 sumptuous roses. Abraham Darby can be left as a large shrub or trained as a climber depending on climate. Here in my zone 5 Michigan garden Abraham Darby never gets bigger than 3' x 3'. |
