I'm beginning to wonder if Angel Face comes in two different strains.  I own two shrubs, and they are distinctly different colors.  The first shrub
I purchased fits the usual description of Angel Face-- lavender-mauve petals tipped with rosy red.  The colors on this rose are lovely; reminiscent of the dainty hybrid tea, Heirloom.  My second shrub bears flowers of uniform lavender-mauve.  No rosy edges, but the same intoxicating raspberry rose fragrance.
Angel Face does nicely at the front of the perennial border.  Its petite size is perfect for covering the bare canes of taller roses.  Planting Angel Face front and center also makes it easier to enjoy the rich scent, though you may have to stoop down to catch a whiff.  This little lavender rose also blends in nicely with shorter perennials and herbs.  Foliage is sometimes plagued by blackspot, but it is not always severe.  I enjoy plenty of blossoms from the lavender-mauve Angel Face all summer long.  It seems new growth is always coming along.  The red-tipped blossoms from the other shrub appear less frequently, but surpass the more recurrent shrub in form and color.
