Hansa

June 2000

This rose was another great find for the spring of 2000!  Hansa is a very popular, older rose.  Its bright green, rugose leaves remain disease free and attractive from May to frost when they turn a bright orange-red color.  The large hips that form after petal drop are decorative, creating a striking fall display.  Watch out!  Rugosa roses are always armed with plenty of prickly thorns.  Bloom is reliably produced throughout the growing season. Hansa is comfortable in seaside locations where salt spray can wreak havoc on other less hearty roses.
The photo of Hansa at Paul Barden's web page entitled
Old Garden Roses and Beyond is the best I've seen on the web.
Place this rose where you need reliable color, rock hardiness, and no disease.  That's "everywhere" here in my garden!
