I first saw this lovely pink rose at Midland's Dow Gardens in May of 1998.  It was spreading its sparsely foliaged canes across a white farm fence.  It was in early bloom, covered with creamy pink blossoms of the loveliest form.  The scent was heady-- the sweet, rosy, soapy kind that keeps making you bend your head for just one more whiff.  I decided then and there that Stanwell Perpetual was a rose I would add to my garden.  It is planted next to the bench in the patio garden.
The incurving petals surround a yellow eye.  Canes are rather lax.  Lloyd Brace of The Roseraie recommends tying canes together with a twist of jute for the first two or three winters to encourage upright growth and to prevent the shrub from being weighed down by snow.
