I am the great great grandnephew of Pvt.Benjamin Black. He was wounded at Shiloh and shot in the right knee at Chickamauga on Sept.19,1863. He died atArmy Hospital #12, Nashville,TN. on Oct.13,1863 and is buried at the Nashville National Cemetery. Our fa ily has a letter he wrote in May 1863 from Readyville,TN. I believe my cousin sent it to you a couple of years ago. Hope it found a place in the book.

I'm very happy to find you on the Internet much less my great great uncle. I look forward to your book and you may count on my being a purchaser. I wasraised by my paternal grandmother who was the granddaughter of Bernard McGrath. Five brothers, includin John and Bernard fought for the union. I have a wonderful picture with the four survivors appearing with a picture of John and various memorabelia of him, as he was killed at Chickamagua. All of the brothers fought in the war under the name of McGraw but I don't know why. I look forward to studying more of this now that I have a computer. Thanks for such an interesting site!

My information ,which I will double check, indicated that my great grandfather mustered in when he was 19 and mustarded out in 1865. I understand he was shot in the arm and layed on the battlefield for a couple of days at Stone River, it would be nice to ind out more of the facts. I also thought he rejoined his unit. His brother unfortunately fought for the South and years later tried to reconcile in Detroit, MIbut my great grandfather refused to see him, very sad. Any further information on my great gra dfather would be appreciated. I'll look forward to reading the book.
