A couple of Fat Ones coming to gaff.

Special Report  UPDATED : 11/9/97-  Just got back from fishing again. (my wife is going to kill me.) This time aboard the "Fury" out of Dana Wharf. Our take for the day was 26 Yellowfin and 3 Skipjack for 50 anglers. I didn't get one this time. Didn't even get bit. Was not my day. My partner David Gurerro got one about 15 pounds; his first tuna. There were definetly lots of fish out there. The only other problem is that there were LOTS of boats too. EVERYONE was chasing the porpoise and with all the activity, the Tuna were skittish. We would pick about 3 to 5 fish on a stop and then they were gone. For this reason, I really don't like going out on Weekends but I am all out of sick (fishing) days at work so there I was. I must say, I did have a great time despite not catching anything. I finished off my roll of film and should have some great pictures of the last three trips; coming soon in the Photos section. Oh yeah, I did have one strange thing happen. I was trolling a Yo-Zuri lure when I noticed my rod tip was not pointing straight behind the boat anymore. I reeled up to find that my 80 pound test had been severed. No drag pulled, no clicker noise, just cut-off. A Mako??? probably. Wahoo?? doubtfull, but not impossible. They're getting them at 140 miles from S.D. Well, we will never know......

Porpoise off the bow!! Find these guys and you are into the fish!!

Ventura / Oxnard  UPDATED : 11/3/97-  Some good scores of Yellowfin are being found behind the Islands. Some are up to 40 pounds. Some Barracuda, Bonito hitting locally. Rockfish bite is good.

L.A. Area  UPDATED : 11/3/97-  Local action is slow for all species. Most 3/4 and full day boats are hitting the Yellowfin out on the banks.

South Coast  UPDATED : 11/3/97-  Yellowfin still holding off Dana Point. Some days showing good scores. Slow fishing on the beaches.

San Diego  UPDATED : 11/3/97-  Slow fishing locally. Some Barracuda, Bonito, and Yellowtail showing.

Offshore  UPDATED : 11/8/97-  Tuna, Tuna, Tuna. From Sanata Barbra to San Diego and south, they are everywhere. Better numbers down south, but bigger size up north. The Prowler out of S.D. took 96 Yellowfin, 3 Bigeye, and 14 Dorado for 36 anglers today. The farther South you go, there's more Dorado too, and Wahoo are reported Wide-Open of San Quinten (140 miles from S.D. !!) Morro Bay is still plunking away at the 60 pound class Albacore with recent rough weather making difficult fishing. Calmer weather is expected next week and with all the fish being metered and seen this could really take off up here!!!! This CAN'T BE NOVEMBER?????!!!!!!

Islands  UPDATED : 11/3/97-  Coronados producing fair Yellowtail action. Some days limits. Catalina also good with some bigger fish showing. No report for San Clemente. Who's been out there?
