You can read about many of the lies and distortions here.  And here.

A man became the president in the USA in 2000 who did not have the support of the vast amount of the population, his rival got more votes than him!  Many votes had not been counted and allegations continued for a long time about the Florida results delivering the presidency for Bush!

Another man, in Britain was about to win his second term in office, although winning the vast majority of the seats in the Houses of Parliament, many many people didn't even bother to vote at all.  Traditional Labour Party members were disillusioned about all the promises the Blair government were making and many stayed at home.

Then came the 11th September 2001, it certainly changed policies throughout the world, the loss of those thousands of lives was just terrible, indeed a tragedy, but more could have been done to stop the tragic events from happening in the first place.  The Bush regime had received many many warnings about terrorists hijacking planes, some even warned that they would be used as suicide weapons on US soil!

After that, governments around the world began to use tougher powers to monitor communications, the so called "Patriot Act" and other such measures were introduced, many feeling that these measures were draconian and gave up the very freedoms that Bush, Blair etc... had said they were fighting for in the first place!

Afghanistan was invaded, there was turmoil, the war became an interference in a civil war making matters even more confused, to date, the situation has not calmed down in Afghanistan, and yet forces are still stationed in the country with the powers that be saying that they did the right thing, and the people of Afghanistan have been liberated.

Then came all the talk of the invasion of Iraq, the Bush regime had wanted to pin some sort of evidence on Husseins regime ever since the events of the 11th September 2001, they wanted to try and show some sort of connection between Bin Ladens group, Al Quida and Husseins regime, no such link has been proven.

So when they could not prove that, they began inventing lies to stir the public up into a patriotic frenzy, their were rumours, deceptions, misinformation campaigns galore from both sides of the Atlantic, but still the majority of the world was against the planned invasion and occupation of Iraq.  Therefore, no 2nd resolution gave authority to the actions of the 2 leaders, who had already decided they were going to war.

Many other issues show just how isolated the Bush regime is in the international community, the environment being a major issue - the Bush regime tore up the Kyoto treaty, and a declaration at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg was severely watered down - most likely thanks to their friends in the polluting, weapons manufacture and chemicals industries.

There have also been the issues of tearing up the ABM treaty, coercing nations to agree with their points of view "or else", etc...

All in all, we are in a very traumatic period in human history!
