Things I like about Paris.........
1) The people.......the people are the city's primary resource. - They radiate contentment, for the most part. Even if they are obviously complaining about something, it doesn't seem like life has gotten them down. - They are not afraid to hug, kiss, or touch each other in public. It is gratifying to see so many people who obviously care for each other and are willing to reassure each other this way. - Everyone walks proud and upright down the street. Day or night, they have their shoulders squared, spine straight, and eyes forward. No slinking down the street with their eyes on the sidewalk for these folks. - When people are sitting and talking or eating, they look each other straight in the eyes and listen to what the other one is saying. - Children are respected and can roam around without fear. 2) The city itself....... - An efficient Metro system that goes everywhere - The streets are laid out well.....The avenues are wide enough and have enough greenery so that they are not oppressive. Every street has at least as much sidewalk as driving space, and not a lot of cars (by US standards) - The mix of architecture. Centuries old stuff blends well with new glass and chrome buildings(see below). I wish they would export some of the stuff. It beats the "modern american ugly" style we tend to get. - The advertisements can be pretty dang funny sometimes........ |

Note the Cathedral right next to the mall above. This is actually a new (~200 years old) Hospital....
