Kitchen Cont'd

Multiple levels of lighting ensure that I always have a brightly lit kitchen.  Notice the tree orchard design cut into the shade for the artificial skylight.  With overhead lighting for the counter and separate light sources for the sink and stove areas I have a no dark corners in my kitchen.
I am very fond of using architectural salvage to create unique items for my home.  The kitchen rack is a piece of salvage wrought iron fencing that has been impact bolted to the ceiling.  The cabinet facings are salvage windows from a demolished home that were mounted to the cabinet box and the whole thing stained and crackle finished.  Pharonic art pieces are used as decorative accents along the wall and for cabinet handles.  The island is made from a tree stump I found.  I just kind of dreamed up this idea.  The sink is a nice design for rinsing vegetables and there is an electrical connection for gadgets.
The open plan allows me to interact with guests while I cook.  This was always a problem for me in the past with closed designs.  I ended up missing out on my own parties.  Also, with all this room and multiple sinks, others can help without interfering with each other.
