Jeff Van Damage/The Human Target vs.
The Hazardous Alliance (Kyle Winters/John "Hazard" Hanson)
This was during Jeff's exodus in mid-2001, during his tour around the world with fellow grappler and real life best friend Target. This is also months before showed up in MIA with JVD. John Hanson is also in a short hiatus from the "Hazard" gimmick, attempting to get over as a more conventional heel.

BACKSTORY: Back in the Ironman Tournament and the Underground Invitational, the feud between JVD and The Hazardous Alliance began pretty simple: the HA wanted to run both of the tournaments, and Jeff had prevented that from happening, and even went on to win both. To make matters worse, Jeff

The Human Target
and Kyle Winters still bore grudges over the ugly "Booyah Knights" break-up (illustrated in the Van Damage/Winters Part 1 recap and the "Booyah Knights" story on this site). So, during the preliminary matches of both tournaments, Jeff Van Damage prevented the two from cheating by playing "ringside enforcer". After the Underground Invitational ended, Jeff Van Damage received a show of respect by one of the more colorful members of the tournament, The Human Target. The strange super hero raised JVD's hand after the tournament and helped him celebrate, when the Hazardous Alliance came out to interrupt the preceedings. After beating down Target and JVD, they challenged the duo to a special tag match at the Renegade Brigade show. The Renegade Brigade was a special "exhibition" showcase for unsigned talent to come out and just wrestle. For the most part, anyone who gets on this show is usually signed immediately thereafter. After getting clearance for the match by the Renegade Division officials, JVD and Target accepted, and thus, we have a tag match.
The show was held in a nice little auditorium, which sat a little over 3,000 people. It's okay, because they are LOUD in here. Winters and Hazard enter together, and receive a pretty strong reception. Target enters, and cuts a fast "super-promo" on the "dastardly duo", getting some cheap pop from the crowd. JVD enters, and gets a great reaction from the crowd.
It's a big brawl to start, and the H.A. hit the high road right away. Back in the ring, Target backdrops Winters and slugs away on him, while Damage whips Hanson into a brutal Lariat. Hanson and Damage start the match proper and Damage hammers away in the corner and brings in Target to work on the arm. Snap suplex, followed up by a snap standing enzugiri (
really nice) and Hanson keeps begging off, but he suckers Target in and sends him into the turnbuckles. Winters comes in and goes for the knee, but Target keeps
fighting him off. HT takes him down out of the corner and gets a Boston Crab, and then tag in JVD for the double team. While HT holds Winters in the Boston Crab, Jeff leaps to the top rope, and drops a Gullitoine Leg Drop to the back of the head! He keeps yanking on the neck, utilizing a few neckKnife Edges (OUCH!!), and then works in a standing neck wrench. Winters brings him to the corner and lays in the knees to break. A slam is stopped by Damage, who quickly whips Winters down with a headlock takeover. Damage goes back to working on the neck again after taking Hanson out of the equation. He brings a little spite, swiping Winters' own ropeline, only to follow up with a Springboard Knee Drop to the back of the NECK(!!) for two. A neck breaker follows, and he suplexes Target in for two.
Triangle Choke on Winters by Target, but Hanson comes in charges in and breaks. Target turns his attention to Hanson, as Winters sneaks behind and clips Target's knee again. A pair of dragon screws follow, but on the third, HT escapes with an enzugiri. HT then dropkicks Hanson, who tries to block, only to take it to the arm. He clutches the arm, to which Target follows with a Falling Arm Wrench. He tags in JVD, who brings the
SNAP KICKS to the arm, before following with a swank spinning hammerlock Powerbomb! Never seen that before. Hanson is gripping the arm is pain, as Jeff just unloads a FLURRY of snap kicks. He has the dukes up, and pounces back and forth on his heels in full "whoop-ass" mode, as he just hauls off on Hanson. Finally, Jeff makes the mistake of taunting to the crowd before one final big kick, only for Hanson to sweep the leg out from beneath him. He pounces on Jeff and unloads with the rapid fire punches to the face, before tagging in Winters.
Kyle begins controlling Damage, startig with a Kitchen Sink to the back, and then a
HARD Backdrop Suplex. Hanson is on the apron, shaking his arm in pain, as Winters points at him. With a grin, he grabs JVD's arm and delivers a Falling Arm Breaker! Nice little payback move for Hanson.  Winters continues to bring the pain, getting a gut wrench backbreaker, followed by a rebound gut-buster! Awesome chain. Winters nails a swinging neck breaker, and drops some knees and follows up with a Sit Out Front Suplex for two. The H.A. go to work on Damage in the corner with their usual awesome heel work, utilizing the tag rope, the kicks, the chokes, all the good stuff. A sweet part sees Hanson body slam JVD, then tagging in Winters. Winters comes in, and bodyslams JVD, then tags back Hanson. Hanson in, body slam, Winters on, body slam. They do that 2 more times, to the point where the crowd is booing them for the cheap tactics, and Target is ready to just furious. It's funny though, because as cheap as it is, it inadvertantly fits the back psychology they're using. And Hazard even sells the arm which each slam, eventually stopping the chain because his arm is hurting too much! Little things, people, little things.
Finally, Winters measures JVD up, and
PLANTS him with a sweet Dropkick, causing Damage to fall backwards out of the ring and land on his head in a SICK bump. Back in, Hanson comes in, and works in a snapmare-falling dropkick combo. JVD fights back on Hanson with a small package, but alas Target was busy arguing with the ref after getting sucked in, so no pin is counted. Winters comes in again and drills Jeff with a pair of Belly to Back suplexes!! He throws Jeff into the ropes, and ducks his head for a Back Body Drop.. but Jeff flips over into a Sunset Flip!! 1....2...2.9999!! Surprising two count, but Winters heel kicks Damage to stop that rally, and then clotheslines him down for two. He chokes away in the heel corner, even arguing with the referee to prolong the 5 count! HT protests again like a moron and Hanson adds his cheapshots, finally ending with a NASTY Running Kneelift on the apron, snapping JVD's head against the ropes.
Finally, Winters pulls JVD to the center of the ring, and after some blatant stalling, calling for the
K-ROYALE (Angle Slam). And, as predicted, Jeff flips out, and almost breaks Winters nose with a Rolling Koppo Kick! Damage tries to follow up, and suplex Winters over the top and to the floor, but does it too close to Hanson and gets nailed by a sharp kick to the back as a result. Winters knocks Jeff to the apron with a STIFF Open Palm Slap, and then sends Damage flying off the apron with a hard High Knee. Winters distracts the referee, and Hanson backdrops him on the floor for good measure behind the ref's back. This is just awesome tag team wrestling. Winters goes for the kill, but Damage fights back valiantly, knocking Winters down with a lariat. He follows up with a dropkick, and then puts him down with the Flat Out Flapjack! But his attempts are squandered, as he gets clobbered while diving for the tag. He sends Winters into his own turnbuckle, but Hanson dives in and cuts off the tag again, and hits the chinlock to keep him there.
The crowd begins to build, even begining a "J-V-D!!" chant to pull him back up. Sure enough, it works, as Damage fights free with the STIFF~! Forearms, and makes the comeback with the leg lariat. Jeff tries to pull in the support from the crowd, as he follows up with the FrankenDriver! Jeff is weak from the beating, however, and is slow to make the tag. Winters enters to stop the tag from being made, and the crowd is
NUCLEAR. The referee tries to deal with Winters, so Target comes in to lay out Hanson.. which makes the referee come back to get Target out of the ring, thus giving H.A. more time to double team JVD! Brilliant. Hanson looks for a suplex, but Jeff falls behind, and nails a Reverse DDT, then rolls it over into the DRAGON CLUTCH! Awesome move, and it gets the crowd going, but that doesn't last long, as Winters BLASTS Jeff in the face to break it up. Now Hanson and JVD are down for a double KO. Winters rushes, and JUST BARELY cuts off the hot tag with a Backdrop Driver for two. Awesome, as Jeff is just looking DEAD at this point. Hanson gets cute with a Superkick, however, and hits the wrong guy, allowing Damage to make the tag.. but he crawls to the wrong corner because he's so beat up.
Winters tries to cut off the tag again with the backdrop driver, but Damage reverses, slides between Winters' legs, and dives for the tag. Great booking there, with the callback to the previous spot. Target rushes in, and the arena
EXPLODES with cheers, as Target cleans house. Back to back clotheslines, hip tosses, back-body drops, and dropkicks follows, before Target nails a LEAPING Shining Wizard on a running Hanson to lay him down. Wow.. That must've been hard. Winters is up, and eats the Tilt-A-Whirl DDT for two, and it's BONZO GONZO. Everyone goes nuts, as we cue the nutty finish: Hanson goes for the HAZARD BOMB (Full Nelson into a Rock Bottom), but it falls because HT goes after the arm of Hazard. PSYCHOLOGY! Target goes for the BULLSEYE (Styles Clash), but Winters stops that with a Springboard Dropkick to HT's face! Winters looks for the FORCE OF NATURE (Pumphandle into Sit-Out Tombstone Piledriver) but JVD comes out of nowhere with the MIGHTY FOOT!! Winters falls, but Hanson goes for the HAZARD BOMB on JVD, only to have Jeff reverse into an arm drag, leaving them both on the outside! Winters stands, and Target kicks him in the gut, leaving him open to hit the BULLSEYE!! He goes for the cover, and the crowd counts along.. ONE.. TWO.. THREE!!
Winners: Jeff Van Damage and The Human Target (20:34)
Jeff Van Damage continues to show his worth, playing a sympathetic face here in massive peril. By the time Target got the tag, the crowd was absolutely on fire, and didn't cool down until after the final bell rang. this was a great match, with some pretty innovative moves, some stiff offense, and Winters and Hazard playing two of the best assholes in the business. This match led to Hazard and Winters to get signed to the WWA, JVD to receive his EHW contract, and Target to.. well, that's never been too described. But regardless.. the "Core Clique" continued to put on great with each other, against each other, and in their respective federations. And to think, this was just when Jeff was starting to manifest his good qualities.
