List of Reading Material for the Memorial Season
Each spring, we have the privilege of celebrating the Lord's Evening Meal at our local Kingdom Halls. In order to prepare ourselves for this special occasion, we often do extra Bible reading, as found on the annual Calendar of Jehovah's Witnesses. For those of you who wish to do additional reading, here is an unabridged list of scriptures and chapters from the Greatest Man book you may enjoy.
Five Days Before the Memorial
(April 6, 1998 & March 27, 1999)
- Feast at Simon the leper's house; Mary anoints Jesus; Jews come to see Jesus and Lazarus: Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9; John 12:2-11; gt chapter 101, pars. 5-9.
- Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem: Matthew 21:1-11, 14-17; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:29-44; John 12:12-19; gt chapter 102.
Four Days Before the Memorial
(April 7, 1998 & March 28, 1999)
- Barren fig tree cursed; second temple cleansing: Matthew 21:18, 19, 12, 13; Mark 11:12-17; Luke 19:45, 46; gt chapter 103.
- Chief priests and scribes scheme to destroy Jesus: Mark 11:18, 19; Luke 19:47, 48.
- Discusion with Greeks; unbelief of Jews: John 12:20-50; gt chapter 104.
Three Days Before the Memorial
(April 8, 1998 & March 29, 1999)
- In Jerusalem, Jesus teches at temple using illustrations; condemns Pharisees; notes widow's contribution; gives sign of his future presence, gives illustrations of the ten virgins, talents, sheep and goats: Matthew 21:19 - 25:46; Mark 11:20 - 13:37; Luke 20:1 - 21:38; gt chapters 105 - 112, par. 1.
Two Days Before the Memorial
(April 9, 1998 & March 30, 1999)
- Religious Leaders plot Jesus' death and Judas bargains with priests for Jesus' betrayal: Matthew 26:1-5, 14-16; Mark 14:1, 2, 10, 11; Luke 22:1-6; gt chapter 112, pars. 2-4.
One Day Before the Memorial
(April 10, 1998 & March 31, 1999)
- Arrangements for the Passover are made: Matthew 26:17-19; Mark 14:12-16; Luke 22:7-13; gt chapter 112, par. 5 to chapter 113, par. 1.
The Day of the Memorial
(April 11, 1998 & April 1, 1999)
- Passover celebration; Jesus washes feet of the apostles; Judas goes out to betray Jesus; Christ institutes Memorial of his death: Matthew 26:20-29; Mark 14:17-25; Luke 22:14-30; John 13:1-30; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25; gt chapters 113 to 117.
- Betrayal and arrest in garden of Gethsemane; apostles flee; trial before chief priests and Sanhedrin; Peter denies Jesus: Matthew 26:30 - 27:1; Mark 14:26 - 15:1; Luke 22:31-71; John 13:31 - 18:27; gt chapters 118 - 120.
- Before Sanhedrin again; to Pilate, then Herod, then back to Pilate; sentenced to death; impaled; buried; Judas hangs himself: Matthew 27:2-61; Mark 15:1-47; Luke 23:1-56; John 18:28 - 19:42; Acts 1:18, 19; gt chapters 121 to 127, par. 7.

40th Day After Jesus' Resurrection
