Information about Investing (money, for the future)

A really good place to learn about investing for yourself is at The Motley Fool. The folks there do a great job of explaining how to invest in the stock market. They explain things in easy-to-understand terms, and they even add some humor to make it more fun. They've written some books, too (see the list below).

One of the easiest ways to get started in the stock market is by investing in an index fund. You can learn about them at the Index Funds Online site.

Once you've decided to start investing on your own, you'll need a discount broker. There are lots of choices, but I chose Waterhouse. I also have an account for my kids at BuyAndHold.com.

Good books for learning about investing (you can buy them now from Amazon.com):

The Intelligent Investor

This book is considered one of the "Bibles" for investing. It introduces the idea of "value investing". It's not very light-hearted or fun to read, but it's full of good info.

Security Analysis

I'm reading this one now. I'm hoping it contains as much good information as "The Intelligent Investor." I'll let you know!

The Motley Fool Investment Workbook

This book does a really good job of explaining, step-by-step, with lots of examples, how to get your finances in order, and then how to invest in the stock market. I think it's a great first book on investing.

The Motley Fool Investment Guide

I think this is an excellent book. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to be financially independent someday. It's the "parent" of the Workbook mentioned above.

The following books are recommended by the folks at "The Motley Fool". I'm planning to read them soon.

Beating the Dow

Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits

How to Make Money In Stocks

A Random Walk Down Wall Street

This is another one that I haven't read yet. It's on my "to-be-read" list.
