PROFICIENCY BADGES |
Crime Prevention Badge A) Description The Crime Prevention Badge is made of metal and is of a circular shape with a diameter of 3 cm. It consists of the letters " CP " in red in the centre againist a metallic background with the words " CRIME PREVENTION PROFICIENCY " around it. B) Positioning This Badge will be worn on the right sleeve approximately three centimetre below the Unit Formation sign. C) Qualifying Requirements This badge may be awarded to a cadet of Sec 2 level and who has passed the following :-. i. Written Test on :- 1) Principles of Crime Prevention and how cadets can help prevent crime 2) Prevention measures againist different categories of crime 3) Neighbourhood Watch Scheme 4) Police Organisational set-up and functions 5) The roles and functions of the National Crime Prevention Council 6) Geographical boundaries of Police Land Divisions and locations of Police Stations and Neighbourhood Police Posts ( NPPs ) 7) How and when to report crimes/suspicious persons and giving information to police ii. Observation test included in the written test paper. ( Crime risks/suspicious persons) iii. Personal assisgnments 1) Participate actively in the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and persuade their parents to form and / or join Neighbourhood Watch Groups 2) Bring handouts of Crime Prevention leaflets/checklist to the notice of parents 3) Persuade their parents to implement preventive measures, as and when necessary, to protect their homes and property 4) Regularly practise Crime Prevention measures at home, school and on the street 5) Maintain a log book of Crime Prevention articles published in the news media and / or photographs, extracts of any literature etc on Crime Prevention 6) Visit the police permanent Crime Prevention (demonstration) Roon at the Crime Prevention Department or at Ang Mo Kio Police Station, Bedok Police Station, Clementi Police Station and Geylang Police Station 7) Propagate the Crime Prevention message by discussing the leaflets/checklist on Crime Prevention with their parents and at least two of their neighbours and to persuade them to implement the measures recommended. 8) Conduct a Crime-Risk Survey of the school premises and put a report with recoimmendations Neighbourhood Watch Badge A) Description The Neighbourhood Watch Badge is made of metal and is of circular shape with a diameter of 3 cm. The design depicts of a policeman together with four NPCC Cadets and the letters " CP " above the picture. This is encircled by the words - " NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH PROFICIENCY BADGE ". B) Positioning This badge will be worn on the right sleeve approximately three centimetre below the Unit Formation sign. C) Qualifying Requirements This badge may be awarded to a cadet of at least Sec 2 level and who has passed the following written tests and personal assignments :- i. Wriiten test on :- 1) Principles of Crime Prevention and how cadets can help to prevent crime 2) Prevention measures againist different categories of crime 3) Neighbourhood Watch Scheme 4) Police Organisational set-up and functions 5) Geographical boundaries of Police Land Divisions and locations of Police Stations and Neighbourhood Police Posts ( NPPs ) 6) How and when to report crimes/suspicious persons and giving information to Police ii. Personal Assighments 1) Participate actively in the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and persuade their parents to form and / or join Neighbourhood Watch Groups 2) Bring Neighbourhood watch Scheme leaflets/crime prevention checklist to the notice of parents 3) Persuade their parents to implement preventive measures to protect their homes and property 4) Propagate the crime prevention message by discussing the leaflet/checklist on crime prevention with their parents and at least two of their neighbours and to persude them to implement the measures recommended 5) Persuade at least two of their neighbours to participate in the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme (NWS) 6) Join / Form a Neighbourhood Watch Group as a Junior member D) Grades of Proficiency Badge A Bronze Badge for Sec 2 Cadets i. Cadets must pass a written test on the knowledge of Crime Prevention and the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme ii. Cadets are to assist NPPs in the school's neighbourhood to distribute Crime Prevention leaflets or letters to the residents and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Groups. OC Unit to liaise with the NPPs in this matter. However, OCs should only allow their cadets to do this not more than twice a year for a duration of not more than two hours each time iii. Cadets will bring another schoolmate (non-NPCC memeber) and one personal item each to be engraved at the NPP. These cadets will also learn teh skill of engraving from the NPPOs while they are there B Silver Badge for Sec 3 Cadets i. Cadets must have obtained the Bronze Badge ii. Cadets must pass a written test on the knowledge of NWG, Crime Prevention Council in Commercial Complexes or Industrial Parks iii. As a group assignment, cadets will organise an " Engraving Exercise " in school on one of their training seesions. The engraving machine will be borrowed from the NPP and the cadets who have learnt the skill of engraving while they were in Sec 2 will put this skill to good use. Schoolmates are to be encouraged to bring their personal items for engraving C Gold Badge for Sec 4/5 Cadets i. Cadets must have obtained the Silver Badge ii. Cadets will conduct a Crime Risk Survey of their school grounds using the Checklist provided by HQ. This survey is to be done twice a year with the permission of the school principal iii. Cadets will work as a team to orgainse a Crime Prevention talk by a regular police officer, preferably the OC or AOC of the NPP. If the talk is to be conducted on a school basis, then permission from the school principal must be sought before it is conducted. In conjunction with this talk, a mini Crime Prevention Exhibition of artwork or posters done by the cadets themselves will also be organised. |
