I am pretty sure you have heard Su Yanzi's songs. Her song "Ti Oh Oh Ìì ºÚ ºÚ" (or a raw translation 'Sky Dark Dark' in Hokkien) captivated my attention. Honestly, I wasn't really all that excited when I heard about her at first because I thought she might just be another of those newcomers who would come and go. But, I was obviously wrong. She is set to heave up a storm in the Chinese music scene. Her first record-breaking album has already wooed Taiwan fans and has certainly created a stronghold in the market. She is also a graduate, mind you. Having a degree from NTU Business (Marketing), we can be sure she is not just a pretty face.
With good academic background, solid vocal and music training and a sweet face with a toothy grin, Stefanie Sun has all what it takes to be a successful singer. The advertisement line that hailed "bu shi chao mei li er shi chao shi li" ( ²» ÊÇ ³¬ ÃÀ Àö ¶ø ÊÇ ³¬ ʵ Á¦) understandingly aims to draw us to her talent and not her looks. But well to me, I think she has both the talent and the looks. I would give my thumbs up even if the line had been "bu zhi chao mei li er qie chao shi li" ( ²» Ö» ³¬ ÃÀ Àö ¶ø ÇÒ ³¬ ʵ Á¦). Ask any guy around, I think all of them will agree that she has much-more-than-can-make-it look.
Sun Yan Zi also bagged the Most Promising Artiste award at the Singapore Hit Awards 2000 ( Р¼Ó Æ ½ð Çú ½± 2000), a yearly event organised by y.e.s.933. Some had commented that the award was rather awkward as there had never been such a category in the past years. But, I guess the award was a timely one and I certainly am sure Stefanie lives up to the award. Being only 22 and with a great start in her music career, she is no doubt a promising artiste. What more with her record company investing so much on her and hailing confidence from others in the music industry, I am sure she has a great future ahead.
Stefanie Sun is awarded the Best Newcomer Award at the Taipei Golden Melody Awards 2001, beating other nominees like hot favourite Jay Chou. Congratulations Sun Yan Zi!
July 2001, Stefanie is out with her third album "Feng Zheng". She went over to Taipei to publicise the new album.
Jan 2002, Stefanie Sun has released another album "Start" which is a compilation of English and Mandarin covers which Stefanie selected herself. All of these songs have certain special memories or stories linked to them.
