Chronicles and Further Chronicles of Avonlea are two collections of stories set in Avonlea. Anne Shirley is mentioned breifly in most of them, and is occasionally part of the plot of the stories, and some of the stories were used in Road to Avonlea. The stories are clever and witty, and show Maud's ability to make an entire town come to life. Maud's character's in all of her novels are always redeemable, every character gets a second chance, and that is what a lot of these stories are about. I think that this exhibits a desire to never throw away anyone, no matter how badly they have behaved, and a wish to be able to love and get along with everyone. Maud knows that everyone has a story to tell, not just the protagonist in a novel, and that is what these stories are about to me. If you are like me, you are no great lover of short stories, but I thoroughly enjoy this collection, and think that anyone can take an interest in all of them.
