E Komo Mai !
Aloha and welcome to the 2001 San Leandro Channel Race hosted by Kaimanu Outrigger Canoe Club and the Spinnaker Yacht Club.  The race will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2001 at the San Leandro Marina.  The entry fee is $12 per paddler and includes a Hawaiian plate lunch (kalua pig, steamed rice, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, soda).
The Course
The course is 5 nautical miles straight out channel and back (10 nautical miles total).  The Spinnaker Yacht Club will have their boats lined up every ½ mile after the last channel marker at 2.5-miles (marker Green-1).  Please see the race map. As your canoes pass the sterns of their boats, they will radio to the Yacht Club and advise us of your canoes' positions.  There will be a board up of the race course and we will move them accordingly so you can see how your club is doing.

The only restriction, which will be strictly enforced, is that the outrigger canoes DO NOT GO INTO THE CHANNEL.  You must stay outside of the channel markers.  Any canoes that go into the channel will be DISQUALIFIED.  THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
SPRAY SKIRTS  -  CANVAS  -  AND ESCORT BOATS
Your clubs should not go into the Bay without them.  Think SAFETY FIRST!

Parking
Important:  We have to share the boat ramp with the fisherman and you know how grumpy they are!!  So please, when you bring in your trailers, be considerate and park in a stall preferably along the fence or close to the street side.  Parking in the middle area may lead to fisherman parking next to your trailers and you won't be able to get your canoe off the trailer.  And please, once your canoe is rigged, do not put it in the water and tie it to the dock.  SPACE IS LIMITED.  We will find a slip for you to put the canoe in.  Mahalo!

There is plenty of parking around the San Leandro Marina, however there is limited parking in the lot directly next to the boat ramp.  We need to reserve any parking in this lot for the canoes.  For individual vehicles, please use street parking and the lots on the right as you come in on Marina drive (just after the left-hand curve).  Cars attempting to park in the boat ramp dock will be asked (with aloha) to kindly park elsewhere so we can share the space with the canoes and the fishermen.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated (for reals!).
Awards Ceremony
Following the completion of the Mens races, everyone is cordially invited to attend the awards ceremony at the facility of our gracious sponsors, the Spinnaker Yacht Club.  The Mayor of San Leandro, Shelia Young, and several members of the City Council will be in attendance.  Hawaiian entertainment will be provided by vocalist and song writer Patrick Landenza and the Kaulana Na Pua Dancers (Deanie Lum-Villados, Kumu Hula).

Hawaiian plate lunches will be served for $5 and a no-host bar will be available.  If you plan to drink alcoholic beverages, please be sure to sign the guest book and to grab a name badge.  This process allows the Spinnaker Yacht Club to serve alcohol, so your cooperation is appreciated.  And of course we will be presenting the awards from the race.
