Caught In The Middle by Melissa (Lissy4859@aol.com) and Marianne (Pnut1515@aol.com) Chapter 13 Annie pulled up to the beach on the island, and headed to the abandoned house in the cove that only her and Nick knew about. He hadn't even shown Britney this place. She walked through the rotted door and up the stairs, to the room that she liked to sit in. it had a view of the lake, over to the land,and was peaceful. when she got in the room, she collapsed on the floor,the wieght of her heart was to much. She lay there, crying till she had no more tears to cry **************************** Nick rowed to the island as fast as he could. when he got to the beach, he jumped out and ran through the trees, to where he knew she would be. when he got to the house, he could tell she was there. he ran his fingers through his hair, and continued inside, and upstairs. When he got upstairs, he noticed one room with a candle in it, he knew that was where she was. sure enough, he came closer, and saw her body crumpled on the floor, rising up and down from the sobs. We came even closer, he could tell she didn't know he was there. "Hey Cinderella." he said softly, holding her shoe. She looked up, startled, and saw who it was. She sniffled. "Why are you here? Don't you have something else to do like, say, Brittany? Nick laughed a small laugh.He sat down next to her body "I deserved that. But Annie, seriously, I'm sorry. That was rude of me., it's just that...." he trailed off. "That what." she replied, unpatiently. He sighed, not knowing the right words to say. He looked at her. "Annie! Look at me for a second!" he took her chin and held it in his hands, toward him. "I don't know how to say I'm sorry for being such a jerk. I'm not good with words like you. but I am, sorry, I mean. I guess, I guess I've been looking in all the wrong places, because the one thing in the world that I could ever want, is right here in front of me, and I didn't realize how much i need it, until i didn't have it." She stared in his eyes for a second, then looked away. They were silent for a second. Nick turned toward her, and softly, he sang to her "So now I come to you, with open arms Nothing to hide, believe what I say So here I am with open arms Hoping you'll see what your love means to me Open arms" She turned to face him, and saw the sincerity in his eyes. He continued. This empty house seems so cold Wanting to hold you, wanting you near How much I wanted you home" With this, he leaned over and whispered in her ear. "Annie, please say you still want me.....love me.... half as much as I want you, and I'll be happy". He moved his head, and his lips connected with hers. All the pain, the suffering, the tears, went away, and Annie finally felt that her life was complete. She held him closer, and they pulled apart. "I've always loved you, Nick, you just never knew." "I knew deep within my heart, just not up here" he said pointing to his head. "but, Annie, I love you too, and our kind of love is special, promise me we'll always be like this," he said, grabbing her hand. "and I promise I'll always be here." "I promise, Nick." she said kissing him again. Then she sat up. "but I'm still mad at you" she said with a grin. "Oh really?"he replied with a smirk, standing up. "Well, what can I do to change that?" "Give me a piggy back ride to the boat? I seemed to have lost a shoe!" she said, jumping up to get the one in his hand, which he held high above his head. "Certainly, my lady!" he said, bending down. She hopped on. "Can I call you that? My lady?" he whispered in her ear. She smiled. "Of course you can, Nick. of course you can!" They exited the house, and he carried her toward the boat. They both knew that he still had to leave tommorrow, but didn't care. If Annie had waited this long, she new 2 more weeks wouldn't kill her. And then they would be together, and happy, with friends that cared, and a great relationship, built on friendship. Who knew what the next few months would bring them? They didn't care, they took it one day at a time, and worried for now about finding their boats, which seemed to have rifted off into the lake, because they weren't tied up properly. "Hey!" Nick said noticing the boats. He dropped Annie in the sand, and ran into the water.
