Caught In The Middle Chapter 7 Nick walked out of the hall pale as a ghost. He stood still, until AJ looked up from the TV. "Nick, uh, what's wrong, you look like you've seen a ghost!" All the blood rushed to Nick's head. Just then, the bathroom door opened and Annie, now dressed, hurried back to the guest room. AJ looked at Nick, and burst out laughing. Annie sat down. "Thanks for everything AJ!" "No problem babe! You'd do it for me! Did you talk to your mom?" "Yeah. I decided to tell her the truth. She's glad I am ok, and she thinks I learned my lesson and everything. Can I chill here for a while? I don't wanna know what's gonna happen when I see my Dad, but he's got business in Miami until Friday, after tonight." "Sure, do you want me to stop at your house and get some stuff on my way to the gym?" AJ asked. "Sure, my mom should be home. There's a Nike bag under my bed, already packed for when I stay at Melissa's house. And get my backpack!" "Sure, well I've gotta go now, then I'll be back around 5:00?" AJ told her. "Ok! I'll write a note if I go out. I'm feeling better." "Great, see ya later babe!" AJ smiled as he walked out. "You too sexy!" Annie replied in a flirty tone. Her and AJ always flirted, but it didn't mean anything. She sat down, and turned on MTV. Coincidentally, a re-run of the BSB's top 40 Favorite video countdown was on. She smirked and watched it again. Around 4:30, towards the end, there was a knock on the door. She opened, to see a slender, dark haired girl who looked about 20 standing at the door. "May I help you?" Said Annie, opening the door. "Ummm...is Alex here?" "Huh? Oh yeah, AJ. He went to the gym, but he will be back soon, do you wanna wait?" "Sure." Said the girl walking in, "If you don't mind me asking, your not his girlfriend, are you?" Inquired the girl. Annie laughed. "No way!" It's a long story. I'm Annie, by the way, you are?" "Mandy. I met Alex at Billiards yesterday, then we went to a party I knew about. He had an emergency, and left so suddenly. I wanted to see if everything was ok." "To tell ya the truth, I was the emergency." Annie felt comfortable talking to her so she told her the whole story, from the club, to AJ taking her home. She could tell Mandy was listening to her carefully. After the commercial break, the #3 video, As Long As You Love Me, came on. Annie paused to watch, Mandy watched too. She caught on quickly. "Oh my god! I knew Alex looked familiar! It's AJ!!!!.....sorry, I didn't know he was a, a...." "Backstreet Boy?" Annie said finishing her sentence. "Yeah! That's so weird! I went to their concert with some friends, and have their CD, but, It's AJ! That is just, so weird," she paused, "To tell ya the truth," she whispered, "I liked the blonde one!" Annie smiled. "Nick" on the t.v., the camera had zoomed in on his face. "Do I sense a crush?" asked Mandy, half serious. "To make a long story short, I guess you could say that, although you're the only one who can tell!" Annie said. "It's pretty obvious, the way your eyes lit up when I mentioned him. Does he know you personally?" Mandy asked. "Yeah, he's one of my best friends..." Annie proceeded to tell Mandy the story of her and Nick's relationship as friends, and about Brittany too. Mandy listened once again. "Brittany has everything I want; Nick, money, happiness, and my best friends attention." Annie explained. "I see, and I think I know what to do, do you think you could help me out with Alex in return? I'm drawn to him, he's different than any of my old boyfriends." Mandy answered. "Sure, what have you got for me?" Annie listened to what Mandy said, explaining what she had observed. And Annie promised to talk to AJ in return. After a while, they heard the door unlock. "Annie, you still here? I got your stuff!" AJ said. The girls looked at each other, and then AJ walked in, surprised to see Mandy. "Mandy, hey!!! What brings you here?" He asked. Mandy stood up. "I just wanted to see if you were ok, you left in such a hurry, sorry." AJ smiled. "The door is always open here, I don't mind you stopping by!" Annie interrupted, knowing she should leave them alone. "AJ, I'm gonna go for a walk, I'll call you ok?" "Sure Annie! I'll probably be here, if Mandy lets me make her some dinner?!" AJ hinted. "Sure!" Exclaimed Mandy. Annie went to the guest room, to see if Nick wanted to go on a walk with her. "I'm sorry Annie, Nick went out with some girl, Brittany, I think her name is." Said Leslie, who answered the phone. "Ok, Les, thanks girl!" Annie answered. "Anytime homie!" said Leslie, in a joking tone. Annie left building, and walked forever, eventually realizing she was at a dock that she went to often with Nick usually. She took her row boat out, and proceeded to row in the lake. Next: Chapter 8 |
