Caught In The Middle by Melissa (Lissy4859@aol.com) and Marianne (Pnut1515@aol.com) Chapter 9 **In Melissa's Driveway** "Hey AJ, thanks! You are way too good to me!" Annie exclaimed as she was just about to step out of the car door and step onto the pavement. "Hey girl, not a problem. You have had a rough couple of days." Annie retorted underneath her breath, "More than you know!" "Besides, I only want the best for my future girlfriend!" AJ said. Annie and AJ had always joked about that. She let out a small laugh and leaned over to kiss AJ on the cheek. She stepped out of the car and took a deep breath. She was hoping that she might be able to escape the stress of Nick and Brittany for one night. She walked down the driveway and headed for the gate leading to the backyard, figuring that Melissa would be back there. As she opened the gate, she could here Melissa and Brian talking and laughing. When she walked near them, they both got out of the pool. "Annie! You came! Hey girl, what’s up?" exclaimed Melissa. "Hi! I decided I needed someone to cheer me up!" replied Annie. "Its the babe from down the street! Hey gorgeous!" chimed in Brian. "Hey sexy! I feel better already!" she looked at the pool. "Is the water warm?" "Hell yeah! It's kick ass!" replied Brian. As Brian went inside to get some drinks, Annie walked to Melissa. "Lis, can I talk to you for a -----"she trailed off, as the screendoor opened, and Nick and Brittany walked out. "Sure Annie, hold on a sec! Brit! Hey hun! Who are we with here?" Annie couldn't take it anymore, she ran inside, and collapsed on the couch, to sit and think for awhile. She could see everything going on outside. She saw Kevin come out, and the tension between him and Nick. Brittany and Nick walked over to the pool, and Brittany tripped, falling on top of Nick. This is when Annie had enough. she decided to leave, and explain later. Trying to hold back tears once again, she swallowed, and walked out the side door, as to not draw attention to herself. As she walked, she heard Nick and Kevin having a talk on the side of the house. "Kev, you won't believe what happened tonight" hearing that, and not wanting to know any more, she ran to the front of the house. *************between Kevin and Nick******************* "Hey, Nick, this is bugging me, come here for a sec." said Kevin, walking over to Nick. "Fine." replied Nick, as they both looked for Brittany. She looked to Kevin, who was actually her date tonight, and smiled and blew a kiss. Nick thought it was towards him, and Kevin thought it was to Nick, too. When they were out of view, Kevin spoke. "Nick, this usually isn't a problem between us with this, but its obvious that we both like the same girl, and I’m really serious about her." "Lets see who she wants, I’m sure I know the answer" replied Nick "Let me guess Nick, she wants you, right? Just like every other girl in this fuckin world, she's 'Nick Carter crazed', huh? Some people see right through that corny smile of yours....." "My smile is not corny! Its cute!" "Listen to your self Nick, can our head get any bigger? You have all the leads, all the girls, all the support, yet your still unhappy. To be in your position would be heaven for me, all I want is this one girl, and you already have one, if you shrink your head and look about 5 inches beneath you." "Kevin, what in the world are you talking about?" "You just don't get it, I just wanna say that I’d really appreciate it if you back off of Brittany, from one guy to another, lets just cool off for tonight and see what she wants." It was silent. "I already know what she wants" "Oh Nick, didn't you hear a word I said---" "Kev, you won't believe what happened tonight.----" They stopped, hearing a ruffling nearby, then continued. "---anyways, your right, Kev, she doesn't want me. I guess I’ve known it, just didn't want to, you both helped get it through to me tonight." "Thanks, bro. Ya know, you're actually pretty mature when you wanna be." "Thanks, it means alot to me. I think I’m gonna go now, I’ve got some thinking to do." "K, and Nick, I think that there's some more stuff about you deep inside your heart, that you need to find out for yourself." Nick looked at Kevin confused. "I think you might be right." with that, we walked away, down the street where his car was parked ***************************************** Annie ran to the front of the house, where she saw brittany sitting on the drive way. Oh, great. she thought. The last person I want to see. She tried to walk the opposite way to the road, but Brittany saw her. "Hey Annie." Annie tried to be pleasant. She flipped on a fake smile. "Hi Brittany." "I just wanted to let you know that I’m not a mean person, or a bitch, even though you think I am." Brittany flipped on an equally fake smile. "I don't think that, Brittany. It just hard to explain" "If it has to do with Nick, you have nothing to worry about, its all good with us, we had a good time tonight-------" Annie couldn't take it anymore.
