Peas and Carrots Chapter 1 I sat in my room with the radio on. I t was a rather unpleasant day, overcast and dreary. I remember wondering a few days ago whatever happened to my friend Nick. We had always played together when we were little. I would come over to his house and we'd play with his G.I. Joe's, and he'd come over to my house and we'd play with my Legos in the sandbox. We were the best of friends. Inseperable. Two peas in a pod. Amigos. Kids always teased him for singing, so I would defend him, tell them off, and threaten to beat them up. I wasn't a bully or anything, just a tom-boy. I guess I still am in a way. I hate dresses, make up, and anything pink. Anyway, back to my room: As I sat there with my radio blaring, I heard this song I'd never heard before. It had a catchy tune, and the singers were amazingly good. I waited for the DJ to announce who this new group was. As the song was finishing, theDJ popped on and announced a new arrival to the music world: the Backstreet Boys. A soulful group of 5 young men, Brian Litrell, Kevin Richardson, Alexander James McLean, Howard Dorough, and, last but not least, Nick Carter. As soon as I heard that last name, I thought, "Nah, it couldn't be my old buddy, it's just a coincidence. Carter is a common last name, as well as Nick is a common first name." I dismissed the idea that it could be my best pal from childhood. Besides, stuff like that happnes to other people, not my friends. I listen to the radio all the time, but I only heard that song a couple of times. Personally, I loved that song and all of the harmonies for it, but I guess the world wasn't ready for it yet. I soon forgot about these Backstreet Boy after 5 or 6 months. At first, I had asked my friends if they'd ever heard of them,
but most of them said no. The ones who did say yes, however, didn't care for that music. They told me, "Ever heard of New Kids On The Block? Well, this is just another group of Danny's, forget about them. Besides, Hootie and the Blowfish are SO much better. |
