Peas and Carrots Chapter 5 I picked up the reciever in my room and listened. "Oh it's so good to hear from you Kathy!" the voice on the other end of the line said. "it's good to talk to you, too Jane," my mom said. "Listen, remeber how Nick and Andrea used to be such great friends when you lived here?" "Yeah, I do," replied Jane. "They were like peas and carrots. We couldn't keep them apart!" "Well, Andrea just got the Backstreet Boys' album, and she recognized Nick on the cover of it. I figured we might as well reunite them, but if we do, don't tell Nick about it, I want it to be a surprise," Mom said, sounding a bit hopeful. "Oh I think that would be a wonderful idea!" Jane exclaimed. "The Boys will be going on a European tour soon, so it'll either have to be right away or in a long time, 'cause these tours can last a while, you know." "Well, I was thinking we could leave next Thursday and meet up on Friday. Is that too late? " Mom asked. "Acutally, they'll be leaving the week after that, so you'll have a full week-if you want to stay that long-to catch up." Jane said. I couldn't believe my own ears! My best friend from elementary school had become a singer in a group, and they looked to be pretty popular with tht girls. Not to mention the fact that he was now a major hottie! "Oh that would be just wonderful!" my mom exclaimed. "Andrea will love this!" "You got that right!" I thought to myself, gleefully. "Great! Jane said. "When you come next Thursday, I'll have someone meet you at the airport. I can't come myself, or people would recognize me and swarm everywhere. The Boys are getting popular quick, so it's harder to go places anymore, but it's worth it if it makes they guys happy," Jane explained. "Well, it's good that they're doing something they love and are happy," my mom replied. I put the reciever back on the cradle of the phone carefully, so they wouldn't know that I have been listening in on their conversation. "I've got a week to pack and to tell all my friends," I thought, sitting down on my bed. "Hmmmmmm, what should I take? Something nice for when we meet, but not a dress or anything. Like I'm gonna let a bunch of people stare at me in a dress. Yeah right." I heard some footsteps coming up the stairs. Probably Mom coming to tell me about her conversation with Jane. Yup, it was her. She told me about having a guard pick us up at the airport because Nick couldn't do it himself, and even Jane couldn't. "That's okay, I'd probably need some time to get ready and to change after the flight," I told her. "Okay, then it's settled, we leave on Thursday, their guard picks us up and takes us to the Carter's to spend the night. Nick will be gone that night performing a concert, and won't get back untill really late. We'll re-introduce you two the nest morning. Sound like a plan?" Mom asked, after she was done explaining. "Yes, and a good one. I'm already getting nervous. I don't know what I'm going to say or wear," I told Mom. "Well, I'll help you pick out something," Mom replied. "HA! No way! Nu uh. Nope. Not a chance," I replied, standing up. "I'll do fine on my own, thankyouverymuch." "Okay, fine, it was just a suggestion, you know," Mom said as she left my room. |
