Everything Your Heart Desires Chapter 2 The captain’s voice broke Kristy’s concentration. “We have clear skies ahead and anticipate a smooth flight into Orlando. The flight attendants will soon be coming around for final drink service. So sit back and enjoy the rest of your flight.” Kristy put her book away and changed the CD in her Diskman before reclining in her plush leather seat. “I love flying first class,” she giggled to herself as she snuggled into the seat, savoring her splurge and smiling as the Backstreet Boys began singing through her headphones. Her favorite musical group was practically the only constant in her life right now. As soon as she landed in Orlando, everything would change. “Orlando,” Kristy smiled at the thought. A new job, new home, new friends... a whole new life. Not that anything was wrong with her old life, but Kristy had felt like she needed a change. And now was the time to make it happen. When her friend Cheryl had talked about interviewing for a job at Disney World, part of Kristy had been a little jealous. Being the ultimate Disney fanatic, Kristy had always thought working for “the Mouse” would’ve been the coolest job on earth. Of all the places she’d traveled for pharmacy conventions, meetings and on vacation, Disney theme parks were among her favorite places in the world. And now she’d be working in one of them... well sort of. Kristy had accepted a new position at the Disney-associated Orlando Medical Center as a clinical pharmacy specialist... not exactly her dream job of being one of the Disney princesses, but at least all of her education and training wouldn’t be totally lost! Kristy’s thoughts turned back to Cheryl... her new roommate! Not only had Cheryl convinced Kristy to take the position and join her in Orlando, but that they should find a place together. The first time they’d met in person had been like a reunion between two long lost sisters. Kristy was excited to move into the spacious condo they’d found and start her new life. Kristy glanced at the screen above the isle as the movie credits rolled. She decided to tune into the movie channel as the new Leann Rimes video started. “Sorry Boys,” she thought with a slight grin as she put aside her Diskman. Kristy looked back up to the screen, but out of the corner of her eye noticed the attractive man across the isleway looking at her. Kristy glanced his way and gave him one of her smiles that could light up a room. The man had been eyeing the pretty blond across from him throughout most of the flight. It wasn’t just that she was attractive, although she certainly was... she had a confidence and style that captured his attention. When she looked his way he returned her smile, somewhat embarrassed to have been caught. “Hello,” he said and grinned sheepishly. “Hi,” Kristy replied, her smile broadening. “May I get you something else to drink?” the flight attendant asked Kristy and the gentleman. He was slightly relieved for the interruption... and the chance to form an articulate sentence. They got their drinks and turned back towards each other. “So, I guess I can forget about asking you if I can buy you a drink...” he smiled and nodded towards her gin and tonic. Kristy chuckled slightly, “But thanks for the offer.” “Well, maybe another time...” It was almost a question. Kristy smiled, but didn’t answer. Her attention shifted as familiar figures flickered on screen. Unconsciously, a smile lit up her face. “You like this kind of music?” the man asked, referring to the video of the Backstreet Boys playing on the screen. Kristy looked him straight in the eye and grinned, “Yes. I do.” She quirked an eyebrow, “You?” He nodded, “Yeah, actually I do.” They smiled at each other and laughed. “You have a great laugh,” he said, making Kristy smile slightly and blush. “Almost as nice as your smile.” Kristy laughed again, “A line for everything?” He shook his head, “It’s not a line if it’s true.” “So you’re telling me you’re NOT trying to hit on me?” she teased. “Oh no, I’m absolutely trying to hit on you!” he said with complete sincerity. Kristy giggled and he smiled. “So, don’t you think it would help if we knew each other’s names?” she asked. He shrugged, “That or I could just refer to you as the hot blond I met on the plane.” Kristy bit back a smile and shook her head with mock disappointment. He gave her another sheepish grin. “Or not!... I’m Tim,” he said as he extended his hand across the isle. “Hi Tim, I’m Kristy,” she said as the captain announced their decent. “So, are you going to be in Orlando for business or pleasure?” Kristy asked as she put her tray table up. “Now THAT sounds like a line!” Tim teased, to which Kristy giggled. “Actually, I’m visiting my brother... so mostly pleasure. What about you?” “Hopefully both... I’m moving to Orlando,” Kristy explained as the plane touched down. “Lucky city,” Tim mumbled and started to gather his things.Next: Chapter 3 |
