Everything Your Heart Desires Chapter 5 "What is it with women going to the bathroom in groups?" Kevin wondered aloud. Tim couldn’t contain his chuckle. "You know they’re talking about me," he teased, flipping up the collar on his shirt. He knew well that both girls were amazed at being in his younger brother’s presence. "Yeah, keep living in your dream world, T." "So are you going to thank me yet?" "For what?" "Introducing you to the ladies." "No. And I’m not paying any finder’s fee either." The brotherly ribbing was interrupted by another male voice. "Hey, Train." "D, man, glad you could make it." Kevin gave his friend a friendly slap on the back. "Hey, John." "Kev. How’s it going, Tim?" "Not bad. Just hanging out here, waiting for the ladies to return." "Ladies?" Howie arched his eyebrows in question. "Couldn’t get away from Cupid, eh?" "This time... thankfully, no." "Huh?" "You’ll see what I mean." Out of the corner of his eye, Kevin noticed Kristy and Cheryl returning from the other side of the bar. "Here they come now.""Who is that talking to Kevin and Tim?" Kristy asked as they walked back to the bar. Cheryl shrugged. "No idea." As the women moved closer, though, she felt her heart gradually beat faster. They were a couple of feet away when the shorter of the two mystery men turned in their direction. "Oh my God," she whispered. "What?" Kristy smiled at the look of utter surprise on her friend’s face before following her gaze. "Howie." Cheryl grabbed Kristy’s hand, nearly squeezing all the blood from it. ‘Breathe. Just breathe,’ Cheryl commanded herself. Not an easy task. Howard Dorough. He looked just as she remembered from television and concerts although live was certainly better than Memorex in this case. He wore tailored black slacks with a burgundy-colored silk button-down shirt left opened at the collar. Missing was the slicked back ponytail. Instead his dark brown curls hung loose around his face. His wide smile was visible even in the darkness of the club, and although she couldn’t see them, she could feel the intense stare emanating from his brown eyes. "Cheryl?" She looked at Howie wondering how he knew her name before realizing that the voice came from the man behind him. "John. Hey, Kris, this is John, the guy I told you about." "Hi, John," Kristy greeted still obviously amused at Cheryl’s behavior. "Nice to meet you Kristy." He motioned to Howie. Although introductions were unnecessary, he went along with the formality. "Ladies, this is my brother, Howie." ‘Brother? Howie?’ Cheryl suddenly felt faint – or maybe it was the wave of realization and the overwhelming situation that was causing her to feel lightheaded. Kristy had to chuckle at their unbelievable luck. ‘Kristy. Wow, she’s beautiful.’ Howie took ahold of her hand and bent to kiss it but caught Kevin’s look of disdain. ‘Ooh, Kev’s got it bad this time.’ He then stepped forward to glance over the redhead. He had to remind himself where he was. "Nice to meet you, milady," he said a smile twinkling in his eyes and playing on his lips. He kissed her hand with a flourish. As he lifted his head, their eyes met and held for a long moment. John sighed. "Well, I think my job here is done." He nudged Tim, who watched as Kevin slipped his hand in Kristy’s and led her to the dance floor as the music segued into a remix of Usher’s "My Way." Tim slung his arm over John’s shoulder. "Yep. You know, you and I should do this professionally."Next: Chapter 6 |
