Then and Now Chapter 11 Nick looked down at Lis sleeping on his shoulder. They had been driving for nearly fifteen hours straight, with few stops and they still had a few more hours ahead of them. "Hey B, you want to switch soon?" "Nah I'm ok till we hit the next stop." Brian answered, turning the radio down. "Are all the girls asleep?" Nick looked around. Han was asleep with her discman on and he could hear Aimee's shallow breathing. "Looks that way." "Good so maybe you and I could have a talk." "About what?" Nick asked, already knowing the answer. "You and Lis...and me and Han.: Nick raised an eyebrow. "You and Han? You mean your actually admitting there's chemistry between you two?" "Don't sound so shocked Nick, your not the only guy who can crush after a girl." Brian smiled to himself. "I know that, I just...you never said anything." "Well I thought I'd keep it to myself for awhile. Not everyone of us knows everything about the other." "True." Nick leaned back and looked at Lis sleeping on his shoulder. In her sleep she snuggled closer to him and Nick wrapped his arm around her. "So you going to make a play for Han?" Brian sighed. "I don't know, I mean I think she's pretty involved with Brandon and I don't want to be the one to come between them." "Good point but are you sure she's serious with him? Because I've seen her flirt with you a lot more lately." "I noticed that too, but I think I'm going to let her make the first move. If all she wants to be is friends then I'll just have to live with that." Nick nodded and glanced at Han, she was still asleep, unaware of the conversation that was going on about her. "That's a hard thing to do B." Brian nodded. "What about you Frack, now that Boyd's out of the way do you think maybe you and Lis are gonna get together?"Lis woke up to the sound of voices. She opened one eye slowly and realized she was leaning against Nick. That isn't good, she thought as she considered pulling away from him but then heard what they were talking about. Quickly Lis shut her eyes and pretended to be sleeping, anxious to hear what Nick would say to Bri's question. Nick cleared his throat. "I'm not sure B, I think she only likes me as a friend ya know?" Brian laughed. "You can't seriously believe that one do you?" Nick smirked a little. '"Half of me does, half of me doesn't." "Well all I know is the way you two look at each other sometimes, lets just say I've been thinking maybe you two need a room." "Like when?" Nick asked, feeling Lis move against his arm. He looked down to see that she'd moved away slightly. "Like the other day in the pool, when we were playing chicken." Nick thought back, Lis had been on his shoulders and Han had been on Bri's, but he couldn't remember anything that was memorable. "I don't think so B." Brian pulled into the service station behind AJ. "When Lis fell back into the water and you went to help her to the surface, hello?" Nick scrunched his face up and thought back, not aware that Lis had one eye open and was watching him. "Oh man your right B." He shook his head, not believing he'd missed the look she'd given him. "Better wake the girls up, they may want to walk around before we drive the last stretch." Brian said, unlocking the doors. "Good idea B." Nick slowly unwrapped his arm from Lis and decided to wake her first. "Lissy?" he whispered in her ear. In her 'sleep' Lis pushed him away. "Lissy, come on we've stopped for a few. Get up." Nick whispered a little louder. He looked to the front of the car to see Brian and Aimee had all ready gotten out. He was all alone in there with two sleeping females. His eyes went back to redhead sleeping on his shoulder. Oh god what am I doing, he asked himself as he leaned over and brushed his lips against hers. Lis' eyes flew open in surprise when she felt Nick's lips on hers. She watched him pull away and met his blue eyes, his eyes were sparkling. "Ah your up." he said smiling at her. "That was uhm some wake up call Carter." Lis stammered, unbuckling her seatbelt, her hand was shaking but she prayed he didn't notice. Unfortunely for her, Nick noticed her having trouble with her seat belt. "Here let me help, it sticks sometimes." he said as he leaned against her to help. Lis held her breath as Nick pressed his body near hers. Jeez Lis, calm down, he's only a guy, she told herself. But what a guy, she said silently. "Uh thanks Frack." she said as the seatbelt finally gave way. "No problem." He gave her one of his million dollar smiles and turned around to tap Hannah on the shoulder to take her up. Lis unlocked the door and stepped outside in the cool night air. She saw that some of the group was walking around whispering to each other. Lis grabbed her half full bottled water from her totebag and went in the direction of Aimee. "Hey Lis." Aimee said, noticing the redhead heading her way. "Hey Aimee. Can I ask you something?" Lis asked apprehensively. She figured out of everyone Aimee was probably closest to Nick, and plus it was more something a girl would know. "Sure Lis, what is it?" Aimee asked as they walked along. Lis looked around, everyone was pretty scattered around. She took a deep breath. "Nick uhm he's a big flirt right?" Aimee stopped and looked at Lis. "Nick's a flirt but not a big one. Did something happen?" she asked, looking Lis over. Even in the dark she could see Lis turn red. "He uh he just kissed me." Aimee broke out laughing but stopped when she saw Lis' look. "Sorry I didn't mean to, its just I was wondering if he was ever going to make a move. Lis he's had a thing for you since the day you came to Tampa." Lis looked at the ground, she had kinda figured that, it was one of the reasons she tried her hardest to avoid him. "Oh" she said softly, she had no idea what to say. Aimee sat down in the cool grass. "Oh? Lis do you have any feelings for him?" She glanced back at the parking lot and could see Nick just getting out of the vehicle. Lis looked over at Nick and sat down across from Aimee. Slowly she nodded. "But Aimee don't say anything please? I mean I told B about Boyd and he told the gang and this is even more personal in a way..." "I swear just between us...now I say we change the subject because a certain blonde is on his way towards us." Lis turned around in time to see Nick standing right behind her. "Hey ladies. Can a fella join you?" "Depends on the fella. Oh wait you mean you don't you? Well I guess so." Aimee said laughing at her best friend. Nick made a face and sat down next to Lis, a fact that wasn't lost on either of the girls. Next: Chapter 12 |
