Then and Now Chapter 31 Krys followed AJ through the darkening forest. AJ all ready had a small bundle of branches and twigs in his backpack and more in his arms. "So what should we do now?" he asked awhile later, as they sat down to rest for a few minutes. Krys looked around, it was getting darker by the second. "I doubt we'll make it back to the cave so I say we uh find a new place to spend the night." "Where?" "No clue. Not here though. Too many branches." And strange animal sounds she thought to herself. AJ sighed. "All right, lets get moving then." Krys got up and they continued on trying to find a clearing or someplace suitable for them to sleep.Han climbed inside the crowded tent and crawled over the other three. "Ouch!" Nick yelped. "Sorry!" Han apologized. "That elbow was not in a good place Han." Nick informed her as she moved past him. "Thanks for sharing that with us." Lis said dryly. Han laughed as she finally got inside her sleeping bag Nick laid there staring up at the blue canvas. "You know this isn't that bad guys." "Nick," Brian began. "What Frick?" "You know I love you like a brother but shut up okay?" Nick made a face. "Oh fine, look I'm shutting up..." he laid in silence while everyone else fell asleep. He sighed and rolled over, watching Lis sleep. Lis rolled on her side and yawned still half asleep, her eyes focused on a pair of eyes staring at her and she went to scream but Nick quickly put his hand over her mouth, "Sorry." he whispered. "What are you doing up?" she asked as he removed his hand. "I keep hearing things." he said motioning to outside the tent. "Its a forest Nick, even I know there's going to be strange sounds" Nick nodded and laid back in his sleeping bag. "Your right, its just my imagination." "Night Nick." Lis mumbled as she started to fall back asleep. Krys sighed and rubbed the back of her neck, they'd been hiking for hours now and they couldn't find a clearing. She was beginning to feel doomed when she heard AJ hit the ground with a loud thud. "Damnit who the hell puts a pile of stones in the middle of a forest?" he hissed into the darkness. Brian sat upright in the tent and looked around. He knew he had heard voices but the only sound in the tent was Han mumbling and Nick snoring. Quietly he unzipped the door to the tent and peeked out seeing two figures across the clearing. He swallowed the lump in his throat and jumped out of the tent heading towards the two mysterious figures. Krys knelt beside AJ. "Your such a klutz." she whispered. AJ glared up at her. "You would have tripped too Kryssie." he stated defensively. Suddenly he heard something coming from behind him, creeping up on them. "Krys...." he said slowly. "go...run...its a bear...save yourself." AJ instructed. Krys looked over and had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. "Okay, goodbye AJ." she said and slowly back away while AJ stared up at her in shock. She was supposed to refuse to leave his side or at the very least give him some sort of tearful emotional goodbye. She was one wacked chick, he decided, nodding his head emphatically. Behind him the movement was getting louder and so he summoned up all his courage and slowly turned around. Brian's scream woke up the three in tent. "What? What is it?" Han asked, sleepily. Nick looked around. "Rok's gone...oh my god, the fans got him!" he whispered nervously. Lis laughed because she was still half asleep. "Look Nick grab the flashlight and go look for him." Nick's eyes grew wide. "Me? You want ME to go out there?" he pointed to the door. Han nodded. "You are the only man left..." "Unless your lacking the testicular fortitude (AN: Shout out to Mick Foley for that catch phrase!!) to go out there." Lis added. Nick grabbed the flashlight out of Han's hand. "I'm going." he said solemnly and climbed out of the tent, turning the light on and blinding himself. Brian stared in shock at AJ in the darkness. "What exactly are you doing here?" Bri asked. AJ was just about to answer when he was blinded by a flash of light. "Damnit Frack put the flashlight down!" "AJ man that you? Why ya screaming Rok, its just Bone." Nick said stating the obvious. "And me." Krys yelled coming out of the bushes. "Why are you two here?" Brian asked again. Krys sighed. "Father nature here got us lost...Don't know how we stumbled onto you guys but I'm glad we did. Where the girls at?" "Tent." Nick muttered as he realized his camping trip had just been ruined. Aimee woke up first to the sound of Ryan's walkie talkie going off in her ear. She jumped off the couch in surprise, still half asleep and looked around, everyone was asleep around the room: Kevin and Nina had the couch, D and Jenn were in front of the fire place, Ryan was asleep on the chair and Ang had fallen asleep on a pile of cushions in the corner. Ryan's walkie talkie sizzled again and this time Ryan's hand reached down and picked it up. "Ryan..." he mumbled. Aimee stretched slowly and headed into the kitchen deciding to make coffee. According to the clock on the wall it was only seven thirty in the morning. Too early to be up on vacation she thought as she sat down. A minute later Ryan walked in, Kevin behind him. "Morning fellas." "Morning Aims." Kevin said, grabbing a coffee mug and sitting down. Ryan did the same as his cousin and leaned against the counter, watching the coffee. "Morning, thanks for making coffee." "No problem. Was that news on Krys and AJ?" Ryan shook his head. "No, just news that there's a storm heading our way tonight. Means we gotta get out and find them today." Han and Lis looked at AJ and laughed. "You mean he climbed a tree?" Lis asked, taking a piece of toast off the plate. Krys nodded. "And then when he started down the branch he was on broke off, nearly killed me!" AJ shook his head. "It was fifteen feet away from you." he stated, giving Krys a dirty look. "And I warned you it was coming." Nick laughed. "Sounds like you two had fun." Krys sighed. "Real fun, I'm never going into a forest or any place with trees alone with Bone again. I'm happy we ran into you four." "Same here, gives us an excuse to go back." Han stated. "Why? I thought you guys were staying away for a few days." AJ stated. Nick started to look sheepish. "Well uh just some strange things happened." "Nick destroyed his and Lis' tent." Brian said, trying to keep himself from laughing. Krys and AJ burst out laughing. "How did boy wonder do that?" AJ asked, suddenly feeling better. "I don't know, how did you do that Nick?" Lis asked, smiling at her boyfriend. Nick sighed. "I fell, hit the pole and it came crashing down and when I got up the pole ripped the canvas...but the four of us fit in Bri's tent!" he defended. Bri just laughed. "I never want to be that cramped again." Nick rolled his eyes and got to his feet. "If we're heading back we should go soon, I got a funny feeling." "What, Lis is gonna dump you for this little adventure?" AJ kidded as he stood up. "Ha ha, no I just think if we're gonna go we should go soon that's all."
