Chapter 50

Lis turned around, "Any reason all of our friends just cleared out of here?" she asked. Brian and Han had just left the yard, everyone had started clearing out almost an hour before claiming they had plans for the evening. They all assured her they'd be there at the airport for the final goodbyes the next afternoon.

Nick smiled innocently, "Maybe they had other plans."

"Or you do." she said, "Come on Nicky what's going on?" She studied his face and immediately recognized his 'up to something' look.

"You'll see." he kissed her softly. "Just wait and see."

She groaned, "Nick..." she whined.

"What?" he whined back, trying hard not to break out laughing.

"Just tell me."

"You'll see soon enough. Now why don't we go out for awhile?" he asked, started to lead her out of the yard.

Brian parked his car in front of his house and turned to Han, "Hey."

"Hi." she giggled, "What are you up to Rok?" she turned to face him. "Come on, spill."

"Nothing to spill." he said taking his keys out of the ignition. "Well you ready to leave the car?"

"Sure." Han opened the door and got out, "B, you coming?"

"Yep." he jumped out and slammed the door.

Nick smiled to himself as they walked down the deserted beach. If all was going as planned his little helpers would be hard at work right now.

Lis kicked the sand and watched the wind carry it away. "What time is it?"

"Not even seven." Nick answered, not even looking at his watch.

"You sure?"

"Yup." he said with a nod. He pulled her closer and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Why so concerned about the time?"

"I just want time to be going slow..." she bit her lip, "I don't want to leave tomorrow."

He stopped and sat in the warm sand, "I don't want you to leave either."

Han watched as Brian set the blanket on the ground and sat down. "See, moonlight picnic." he said with a smile.

"Aww B." she sat down across from him. "This is so sweet."

"I'm sweet B. New nickname." He grinned and started pulling food out and putting it on the blanket. "Think I have all our favorites." he said noticing her opening a couple of the containers.

"You do!" she smiled at him and popped a couple grapes into her mouth. "This is really nice Rok..."

"I try my best." he leaned over and kissed her softly.

Lis followed Nick out to the back of his house, "What the..." she mumbled, her eyes scanning the whole yard. Christmas lights were strewn on the deck rails and on the trees, candles were floating in the pool and the table was set for two. "You did all this?"

He shrugged, "Pretty much...well ideawise. I had a couple people set everything up. You like?" he asked.

"Of course!!" she gave him a hug, "Thanks Nicky."

"Welcome babygirl. Now sit, we'll eat...I have something to give you." He said heading to the table. The little giftwrap box was laying on her plate, perfect.

Lis sat down, her eyes kept drifting to the little silver wrapped box. "Can I open it?"

"Go ahead." Nick answered, taking a couple drinks out of the cooler on the deck.

Carefully she ripped the paper off and went wide eyed at the little velvet jewelry box. "Nick?"

He moved his chair over beside her, "See it won't open on its own, you gotta do that." he said as he took it out of her hands and lifted the lid, revealing a plain platinum band. "Well?" he asked seeing her just sitting there.

"Well..." she trailed off.

Nick took her hand and slid the ring on her finger, "I had our names engraved on there."

Lis studied the ring, sure enough there on top was Nick and a heart then Lis. "I love it." she said giving him a quick kiss.

"Good." he whispered, pulling her closer. "Because I love you."
