Chapter 14

It was a warm summer day. The trees were swaying lazily in the mid-july breeze as the birds' songs rang on for miles. It was a rather large medieval city. The roads were made of stone as were the houses. Shops were set up along the main streets' side. Poverty was abundant as in most mid-evil towns and cities.

Here I was caught in the same exact dream as the two times before. My happiness and protection I felt from the dream still emanating around me. I had dodged the dream the other two times from being drugged so much from the hospital and the time when I cried on Nick's shoulder. What the ever-changing dream have in store for me this time??

I looked round me only to see all the people around me in the city bowed before me. Again, I quickly told them to stop. I looked down and smiled. Yet again, my dress changed. Now, it was hunter green with black trim. Also, I felt that my long light brown hair was half up and half down.

By this time I was frightened out of my wits. Last time I hade the dream, it was horrible. The visions wouldn't leave my head for hours and caused my migraines to increase. The same things things continued being changed in my dream. I understood from my previous experience it was all for the worst. But how much worse could it get?? What was going to happen next?

I stopped and waited for the child to come running into me. Nothing happened. The child never came nor did any more conversation. Children in dreams were always symbols of innocence. With the child withdrawn from my dream, all innocence was lost and I was doomed. Realizing this, my stomach sank to the floor.

Yet again, I didn't have control over myself as I had the first time. It was as if my actions before dictated how the dream turned out, I didn't have control. I knew what was next and I felt like crying out for help, but I couldn't.

Then, as expected, the the deafening rumble pierced through the air and panic swept the streets. People were trampled by others and everyone was saving themselves. I watched as people were lying half dead in the street I once walked so casually down. As if I hadn't know what was to be in the next few moments of thought. Limbs which were caught and torn off in the panic lay bleeding, covering the street in thick, dark red blood.

My stomach did flip flops as I felt the bile rise in my throat. I closed my eyes tightly and swallowed to keep from being sick. I could feel the edge of my dress absorbing the still-warm spilled blood of my followers, and did all I could to wish myself awake. Nothing happened. Screams and cries came from all around me as a full-fledged battle formed around me.

My mind screamed at me to use my reasoning, but my body just wouldn't respond. It was all so real, too real for me to deal with. I was a fifteen year old girl who had never even seen a large amount of blood except on TV. And that doesn't even count because that's not real. In any normal dream a person would wake up at once if the dream was unpleasant. This wasn't just a dream.

A hand took hold of my shoulder and spun me around. There he was, my enemy. His ice cold eyes met my grey ones as we sized each other up. My previous actions occurred. "What do you want?" my voice confident, rebellious.

"Rose! You already know that! Your kingdom shall be mine!!" He answered indignantly as his troops continued the battle around us.

"NEVER!!" I spat before grabbing the chain around my neck. Once I did, I felt power surge through me. The warmth increased by ten fold, and I felt extreme peace. 'He can't rule my kingdom without me by his side. It would be impossible'

In one swift movement, he grabbed the chain from my hand and yanked it off me. My neck stung from the force, and I fell to my knees, into the blood soaked ground.

The power disintegrated and the warmth disappeared. Terror took up permanent residence in my heart and mind. Tears flooded my eyes as hopelessness over powered my emotions. I just couldn't do it, I could never win against this maniac. Before I could give up all hope, my mind registered yells in the distance. Was it really that distant, though??

"PRINCESS!!!! PRINCESS ROSE!!!!!" I opened my eyes once again and forced myself out of the state of shock I was in. My caller was not distant at all. In fact, he was carrying me out of the battle. Normally I would have said I could stand and walk on my own, but at the time I was not very level headed and didn't feel strong enough. I looked up in to the face of my caller, an our eyes met for the briefest moment. His emerald versus my gray.

Just before the world went black the tiniest of words escaped my mouth, "Kevin."
