Chapter 20

Kevin stood in front of the door and I heard him gasp. I wasn't sure if it was out of shock or out of fear. I could now see he was breathing heavily, and could definitely tell he was upset about something.

"Kev?" Brian took a step forward and Kevin just shook his head no.

Slowly, Kevin raised his hand up until he was pointing directly at me. "You," he uttered fiercely. His voice filled with rage, anger and hate. I had never heard such anger in anyone's voice before that day. My stomach did flip-flops, and the nausea increased. I closed my eyes for a second, wishing for this to be a dream. Even though I knew it wasn't.

When I opened my eyes I gasped. There stood Kevin and Brian both frozen in their place. Nick also lay motionless in the bed beside me. No sound was coming from any where, nothing at all. Just dead silence. I regained composture as I recalled the last time this had occurred.

It was the the day about a week ago when I was still in my home-town. When all the colors had changed. The purple sky, black grass, teal water. Was it coming back again? I didn't need the answer, I already knew. All I needed to hear was the deafening boom.

Instinctively, I covered my ears, "Five, four, three, two, one..." I muttered to myself and right as I predicted, the boom exploded out of the silence.

As I opened my eyes, I was greeted by the curious colors once again. The floors were now red, and the rays of sunlight which snuck through the shades were black. The white bed sheets were blue. Nick, Brian and Kevin were still not moving, but they were the same exact colors as before. Outside, I could hear the birds chirping. "That's strange," I muttered as I stood next to Brian and waved a hand in front of his face. Not a thing.

Then, just as before, in a blink of the eye, the colors were gone and everything was as it was before. I slowly let myself down into the chair as Kevin pointed at me angrily.

My defense mechanism kicking in, I became upset, "What the hell did I do??" I knew that I hadn't done anything to deserve this hate, and couldn't withhold my temper much longer.

"You," Kevin continued, the hate now gone from his voice. Replaced by despair, "Why is this happening. What is it about you?? You sucked me in to your dream." He slowly allowed his hand to drop as he approached me and Brian. He sat on the edge of Nick's bed, and looked at his drug induced sleeping friend. "I saw it. What he says happened. I saw it happen. He told me to take you to safety. Had me promise no matter what,"

"It's not your fault," I soothed.

"It is just a dream isn't it??" In all the commotion we hadn't noticed AJ come in behind Kevin. I hadn't the time to notice in the past 15 minutes. "Isn't it?" AJ repeated.
