Chapter 5

Eventually, the roads became smoother and sleep overtook my tired mind. Sleep can be heaven on Earth or complete hell according to your state of mind. My first few hours of sleep were dreamless and restful. That was a good thing because that would be the last restful sleep I'd be blessed with.

After awhile, I began dreaming. The dream began like all dreams do; right in the middle of the action. I've never once had a dream that started from the very beginning. You're always thrown into the middle of everything and left to sort everything out for yourself.

It was a warm summer day. The trees were swaying lazily in the mid-july breeze as the birds songs rang on for miles. It was a rather large medieval city. The roads were made of stone as were the houses. Shops were set up along the main streets' side. Poverty was abundant as in most mid-evil towns and cities.

One thing stood out about this place. It wasn't the fact that it was in ancient times. It wasn't the poverty. It wasn't anything about the geography.

It was the over-whelming happiness I felt in my heart. I felt as if I were in heaven. I knew I was loved, and honored, and cared for, and safe. I knew, in the dream, everyone I loved was safe.

I looked round me only to see all the people around me in the city bowed before me and I quickly told them to stop. I looked down and gasped. I was wearing the most beutiful sparkling baby-blue gown I had ever seen. It had Navy blue and black trim. I felt that my long light brown hair was pulled up in to a fancy style.

"William! Come back here!!!" I heard a woman yell from off to the side of me. Suddenly a little black headed boy knocked straight into my right leg. I smiled down at the stunned 4 year old and picked him up.

"Hey, there, little man! What are you doing??" I asked him smiling.

"Getting da butterfwy!" the boy pointed, his blue eyes sparkling.

The woman I heard before was right next to me now. She gasped as she bowed in front of me. "I am so, so, so sorry, your majesty. I took my eyes off of him for one second..." she apologized profusely.

"Please, there is no need to apologize and there is certainly no need to bow. I am no better than you," I smiled as I returned her son to her.

Royalty... I was really liking this dream.

Suddenly, a rumble pierced through the air and panic swept the streets. I turned around and faced my enemy. His ice cold eyes met my grey ones. Each of us sized the other up. He grabbed my arm and began dragging me kicking and screaming out of the village.

One word fell from my lips as I was torn out of the dream, "Nickolas!!!!!".
