This story is a twist on the usual story of cinders loosing her glass slipper and finding her prince but in this story there is no prince but instead she is the on heir to a fortune and her stepmother who in this story is her aunt wants the cash but needs cinders to get it for her.
The story starts with Cindy starting a job as a secretary in a big office block for a multi-million dollar company in New York. She gets to the office building early, she didn’t want to be late on her first day, at least she knew where to go and got to the 27th floor but as she stepped out of the elevator she wasn’t quick enough and the doors closed and knocked her sling-back shoe off and her shoe stayed in the elevator and she was left standing there wearing only one shoe. Oh dam-it she thought pressing the call button franticly, then someone behind her said you’re be lucky if you see your shoe again I have lost many a shoe like that. But the doors on the elevator opened and there was her missing shoe laying there, so Cindy grabbed her shoe and stepped back out into the office floor.
Wow that was lucky I have never known anyone to get the elevator back that quickly it usually goes back down to the ground floor first and someone always picks up the shoe and you never get it back. Anyway I’m Caron and you are the new girl? Oh yes I’m Cindy, ah yes said Caron you are Mr Brig’s new secretary let me show you to your office. Ok and thanks said Cindy as she put her shoe back on. Caron added I have always found sling-backs a pain to keep on the strap on one always slips down and then I step out of it and it’s usually as I get in the elevator or through a door so I don’t wear them any more I prefer a court shoe or a sandal they stay on better, but saying that I know I’m wearing mules today they are designed to stay on without any straps.
They get to the office and Caron says if you need anything I’m over there, ok said Cindy as she sat down at her desk. She turned on her computer and there was a message waiting for her outlining what she had to do that day, so she got to work. Soon she had typed out the documents and had printed them out. She got up and went into her boss’s office but he was not there, so she just left them on his desk, looking around his big office she noticed a single stiletto shoe on top of a filing cabinet. Strange she thought I wonder who’s shoe that is, she walked over to it and picked it up, it was her size too, she looked around and since there was no one about she slipped off one of her sling-backs and put it on the cabinet, she tried on the shoe and it fitted, hmm nice shoe she thought, shoe slipped it off and as she put it back on top of the cabinet she knocked her shoe over the back and it disappeared.
Oh dam it she muttered to herself as she stepped to one side to see behind the cabinet she stepped on a cold glass panel and as she did the office door closed with a bang which made her jump. She forgot about her shoe and went over to the door but it was now locked and she couldn’t get out, but then another door opened at the other end of the office, she walked over to the open door and went in, as she did the door closed. Oh no what’s happening remembering she was now locked in this room minus her right shoe.
Suddenly the door opened and she ran out but it was not the office she had come from but a huge room as she limped into the room she stepped on another glass panel on the floor with her bare foot. Suddenly a large flat screen came down from the ceiling and a video started to play. It was an old man and he said, hello Cinderella you have finally made it back home. What she said very confused. The old man continued and he said you are my daughter and your aunt it my sister who has been after my money for a long time and you are the key for her to get hold of it, but I have put security measures in place to stop her from gaining access and only you can get in. to get access to anything in this room all you need to do is to leave one of your shoes outside and put your bare foot on any of the glass panels on the floor, but you must be wearing the other shoe all the time in here.
The computer on your right has a glass panel on the floor go and put your bare foot on it to access it, you will find all you want to know about yourself, it will also answer all your questions I know you have many. So Cindy walked over and put her bare foot on the panel and said it’s cold, the computer activated and her complete life story came up on screen. It told her all about her aunt and he two step sisters, also it told her what he aunt was planning on doing to her. But it also told her how to trap them so they couldn’t hurt her any more.
Just then the voice of the old man who was her father said it’s time to go now before only notices how long you have been gone, there is only one person in this building you can trust and knows who you are is Caron you have already meet her this morning, she will also help you. You must go now and the computer turns off and the door to the lift opens, Cindy walks over to the lift and gets in a few moments later she is back in the office and her sling-back shoe is sitting on top of the cabinet and the other shoe had gone. Cindy picks up her sling-back and as she does the office door opens she slips her shoe back on and goes out into her office and is meet by another woman she hadn’t meet before. What the hell are you doing in there, she shouts at Cindy. I’m Cindy Mr Brig’s new secretary, Oh you are then. Just then Caron says its ok Miss Grim nothing to concern you Cindy is in charge of Mr Brig’s office until he returns. We will see, and at that she storms off.
Who was that said Cindy to Caron, she thinks she owns the place but as we know she doesn’t does she says Caron, with a knowing grin. Caron then says, oh look at the time its lunch time would you like to grab something to eat. Yes says Cindy and maybe you could explain a few things at the same time. The two women go to a quiet little sandwich bar and Caron answers Cindy’s questions and reminds Cindy not to trust anyone there regardless of how nice they seem to be. So far says Cindy you’re the only nice person I have meet there.
Caron laughs and says there are some nice people there but they are all after the same thing so be careful. That reminds I must warn you about the janitor he will try and steal your shoe but make sure he doesn’t or he will know who you really are. But what if he does says Cindy. Just stand on his foot with the heel you still have on and he will drop your shoe, as soon has he does grab it and run off says Caron.
The two women go back to work and at the end of the day Cindy goes back to her aunt’s house where her aunt asks her how her first day was, Cindy tells her it was ok and uneventful, Oh was it said her aunt. Later that evening laying bed she thought to herself what a day this morning I was only a secretary and tonight I’m the secret heir to a fortune that everyone is after, I wonder what tomorrow will bring.
