Bomb that exploded in Ambon contained high explosive: Police
JAKARTA (JP): The bomb that killed seven people and wounded more than 50 others
in Ambon last Wednesday was a high explosive, a police forensic expert said on
Saturday.
"Based on our preliminary investigation, we can say the bomb was a high explosive,"
chief of Maluku police forensic laboratory Adj. Comr. Slamet Iswanto said in Ambon
as quoted by Antara.
The impact of the bomb blast caused destruction to a radius of 28 meters, he said.
"We have reported it to the Maluku Police chief, Brig. Gen. Soenarko Ardianto, and
we will take the bomb fragments to Jakarta later for further examination," the officer
said.
He added that it did not appear possible that the bomb had been planted at the
explosion site beforehand.
Separately, Soenarko said at least 10 people had been questioned as witnesses in
the incident.
"We have come to the conclusion that two people were directly behind the blast," he
added, but did not elaborate.
Regarding the fire that gutted the office of the Maluku governor shortly after the blast
700 meters away, he said 10 witnesses had been questioned.
"But so far we have not been able to identify the prime actors or the precise motives
behind the arson," he said.
