His career:
Russell started working as an actor at the age of 6. While his parents were doing their work as location caterers, Russell watched the actors do their work and learned a lot from it. He also developped a passion for it. He soon became a child extra, and appeared in a few television series.  The first one he appeared in was an episode of Spyforce.

Then, at 12, he appeared in The young Doctors which ran from 1976 to 1981. In 1990, he also appeared in Police Rescue. The miniseries Brides of Christ gave him a role in 1991 and he also took part in a few episodes of Neighbours.
Russell also did some stage work in his 20's. He was part of The Rocky Horror Show (click on the pictures to enlarge), both in the New Zeland and in the Australian Tour. He was also part of Blood Brothers, Simpson J. 202, and in the Official Tribute to the Blues Brothers in 1993.
His first major roles were in The Crossing (1990) and Proof (1991), but he became popular in the role of a Melbourne Skinhead in the movie Romper Stomper (1992). See the HIS MOVIES link down below for more on his first movies (Coming soon).
After seeing his high performance in Romper Stomper, Sharon Stone gave him his first chance in Hollywood by giving him a role in the movie The Quick And The Dead (1995). Even though he was surrounded by great actors like Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone and the young Leo Dicaprio, Russell managed to to do an excellent job and win recognition. He soon got his second american acting job beside Denzel Washington in Virtuosity (1995), in the role of SID 6.7, a computer animated killer. He the played in many other movies until he got the part which made him known by millions... the role that diserved him an Academy Award for the best Actor..... The role of Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator. Nedless to say that since then, Russell has proven many how of a great actor he is. He is devoted to his work and his talent surpasses many.
