Well...I have the feeling that this fic will be over really soon.
*sniffles* But, hey! I still have "Searching," ne? And I will also be able
to start a new fic when this one is over. Yay! That will be fun! Anyway...I
actually shouldn't be writing this right now, considering the Geometry
homework, the 80 latitude and longitude points I have to plot, the research
report that will count as my final due Tuesday, and the fact that I have to
finish readinging "Great Expectations" by Wednesday even though I only just
finished stage two. Oh well. This just proves how important writing is to
me. (If I didn't write, then my head would burst from all the ideas...)
*Looks in pocket* I have five dollars and I'm using that to take
my Mom to Sonic tomorrow. Don't sue me because it'll all be gone by the time
you read this anyway.

Sister Earth
Part 9

___________________________________________________________________

"What's going on?" Quatre asked as he and the other gundam pilots
entered the house. A very tired-looking Setsuna pushed a few stray strands
of green hair away from her eyes and huffed.
"Will one of you please go get her? I swear, that girl is just like her
mother!" she requested weakly, her argument with Usagi having worn her out.
The group looked at each other in silent conference. Finally, Wufei nodded
and walked back outside. He glanced around, wondering where on earth his
girlfriend could have run off to. Something caught his attention and he
looked up. She was sitting on the roof, crying her eyes out.
How in the world did she get up on the roof?
He went back inside and the others looked at him questionably.
    "Do you have a ladder?"
Setsuna shrugged. "In the garage, I think. Why?"
He shook his head and went to the garage. Shoved carelessly against a
wall was a very rusty and old ladder. It looked like it would be suicide to
even try to use it. Wufei weighed his options: go risk his life to use that
really...nasty looking ladder and get Usagi, or wait and let her come back
on her own. Hmm...

Usagi wiped her face with hands already soaked with tears and still, the
wet droplets fell down her face. She glanced out across the yard of the
house she'd lived in for months.
    Leaving.
She was going to be leaving soon.
And then what? What would she do? Setsuna had told her, very plainly,
that she couldn't take Wufei back with her to the earth she had grown up on,
even though she loved him more then she thought was possible for anyone to
love anyone else.
But he had to stay to fight for the colonies, the cause that had grown
so dear to Usagi in so short a time.
    He would stay.
And she would have to go back. Back to a life alone, without the one she
loved.
A new wave of tears began pouring through her eyes, and she squinted
them shut to keep them from falling. Her attempts at stopping the flood were
useless so she buried her head in the material of her skirt and sobbed
harder then ever.
In the back of her mind, she thought she heard something that sounded
like rusted metal grating against the tiles of the roof, but she ignored it.
Then she thought she heard some unsure footsteps, but that could have just
been the pork rinds she'd had earlier that day talking.
There had to be some way...
    Something touched her shoulder.
Usagi jumped, fighting not to scream, and turned around to meet Wufei's
deep brown eyes. She quickly wiped the tears off her face and forced a
smile.
"Wu-chan, you startled me." Another uncontrollable tear rolled down her
cheek. He smiled gently and wiped it away with his thumb.
"What are you doing up here?"
"I thought that was kind of obvious," she retorted, attempting a joke.
It didn't work. She threw her arms around his neck in a tight squeeze. "I
have to go home, Wufei! Puu said that she got a better look at the timeline
and it looks like you'll win the war so we aren't needed here anymore." She
sobbed. "And..she said you can't come with me! I don't want to be apart from
you, Wufei!"
He stroked her hair. He hadn't had much experience in his life in
comforting women, and he didn't know what to do. After trying so long to
detach himself from any kind of emotions, he found that he didn't know how
to help the girl he loved feel better. So he just knelt there, holding her.
    "Usa..."
At last, her tears dried and she looked up at him, attempting a brave
smile. "Thank you. I feel...well, I think I can deal. I've never been so sad
in my life," she confessed. "Am I a weak onna now?"
    "Not you, Usagi, never you."
She smiled and looked around the roof. "Hey, how'd you get up here?"
    "The ladder."
"That rusty old thing? Wufei, you could have gotten hurt!" Just as she
spoke, the ladder slid and fell down onto the ground. "See?"
He smiled. "I guess now we're trapped up here alone, forever."
"I wish it was that easy. Come on, I can get us down." She stood,
keeping her arms around him. "I hope you aren't too heavy."
    "Huh?"
Usagi jumped off the roof, pulling him with her. They landed safely next
to the rusty ladder which had lost several of its rungs when it keeled over.
    "See? Much safer."
He looked from her to the ladder and back again, eyes wide with
bewilderment. "Umm..."
"Let's go inside. Setsuna is going to make us leave soon and I want to
be able to say good-bye to the guys. When I'm gone, will you take care of my
gundam for me?"
"Like it was the most precious treasure on earth and the colonies," he
vowed, hugging her in order to hide the tears that stung his own eyes.
They went inside. The girls and all the gundam pilots were sitting in
the living room waiting for them. They watched expectantly as the couple sat
down. Aside from the Senshi and pilots, the Starlights, Mamoru, and his
girlfriend, Toni, were also in the room.
"Princess, you have told Wufei why you must say good-bye?" Setsuna
asked. Usagi nodded in response and snuggled close to Wufei. "Good, I have
already explained it to everyone else. And now, for the benefit of Toni and
the pilots, I will tell the story of all of our lives, and our original
reason for coming here. When it is over, we will leave. Understood?"
    They did.
She began the story like a fairy tale, speaking quietly and slowly. They
all listened, entranced by her tale. Wufei was amazed by it, by everything
his sweet Usagi had had to go through in her life. The story ended with the
present, and them all sitting in the room. As soon as she was finished
speaking, Setsuna stood and transformed into the Senshi of Time. She twirled
her staff and a large door appeared in the room.
"We can go to the Starlights' planet via the Time Gate and then Fireball
will send us the rest of the way home." She held the door open and one by
one, the Senshi filed past her. Usagi hugged Wufei and stepped forward. She
was the last to approach the door. She walked through and disappeared into
the light. Wufei watched, heartbroken.
Setsuna nodded to them and turned to leave, only to stumble back as
Usagi walked back through the door.
    "Princess, what are you doing?"
    "I'm not going."
    "Not going?"
"You said no one but Toni could come with us. You didn't say anything
about any of us staying. My enemies there are gone anyway. I'm no longer
needed. I have no reason to go, but every reason to stay. Please, can I,
Puu?"
The Senshi of Time smiled and nodded. "I was hoping you would do this. I
couldn't give you the option yourself. You had to think it up on your own,
but it is for the best."
    "You mean I can stay?"
"Yes, stay and be happy, my princess." Smiling, she stepped through the
door and closed it with a finality.
Usagi rushed into Wufei's arms, laughing joyfully.
"I just have one question," Duo began. "Can I be the best man at the
wedding?"
He was promptly hit very hard over the head.
