The Unexpected Guests - Short Story Charity, an eleven year old girl, had leukemia a disease that can be deadly. Her parents were poor and had trouble paying all the hospital bills, and proving for Charity’s 5 other siblings. Charity‘s condition was getting worse and worse. The doctors weren’t sure if this small but cheerful girl would make it. 1 year later when Charity was 12, she got hooked up to a Feeding tube. Her parents were positive a miracle would come and that’s why they didn’t take her off. Charity stood determined, like her parents, for a miracle. That night she prayed to God to get better. In the morning Charity got up late. When she did get up, she felt better then ever. Charity looked around her room and saw the usual nurse and her parents Smiling and the doctor in the room. Her parents came over and said good morning and kissed her. Charity knew something was up. Then the doctor came over and told her the news, “Charity, soon you’ll be one healthy little girl again, because your getting better!” Charity was overwhelmed with the news! The doctor even said in a couple weeks she could go home. On the day she went home, Charity had a Welcome Party with the family. Charity even got some presents. The last one was a small package. Charity opened it up slowly to savor the wonderful moment. It was a box. Charity opened the box and saw 2 pieces of paper. Charity took them out. They were 2 tickets to an O-Town concert. Charity studied them .... they were front row seats! Charity was so happy because O-Town was her favorite group, but then Charity was surprised that her mom could afford these tickets. So Charity said “Mother, Why did you do this, they must have cost a fortune!” Charity’s mother said “Cost doesn’t matter.” Charity accepted the answer, and was filled with anxiousness. She didn’t know how she could wait a week to the concert. A week went by and on the day of the concert, Charity never woke up .... her parents finally went up to check on her ... and found her unconscious. They rushed her back to the hospital and found out her leukemia took a turn for the worse. At the concert while o-town was performing; Ashley wondered why the 2 front row seats were empty. It was unusual. So after the show Ashley asked why? Ashley then found out that Charity was hospitalized. So Ashley talked to the group and the group decided the next morning they would visit Charity. Charity woke up the next day and saw her favorite 5 performers! She was ecstatic. They both greeted her with big smiles. They talked to Charity like she knew them for years. Jacob even brought his guitar and they preformed “We fit together.” After 2 hours of fun and happiness, O-Town packed up there bags and left for there next show. When Charity fell asleep that night she cried, because she was so happy. Charity died that night, peacefully in her bed. |
