Welcome to my Poems page.
The poems that I will put on this page have special
meaning to me. If you have a poem that you would
like to see on this page, please e-mail me.
I will credit those who contribute to this page.
Of all the poems on this page
I take special pride to "The Undefended Victim."
I had intended to read it as a Victim's Impact Statement
at the trial of my sisters killer, but the jury had other ideas.
I never had the chance to read it in open court,
so it being here is my way of finally
getting to read it for my sister.
Enjoy, and pass them along.

"The Undefended Victim"

For me, no gavel, hammers
The scales were never weighed,
My crime was that of victim,
My life, was the price I paid.

And when my life was taken,
Why wren't my rights read?
And the statement "overruled",
When they pronounced me dead?

I'll never hear my rights,
Nor take the witness stand,
No attorney will defend me,
My fate was in a killers hand.

Now the courtroom's crowded,
As the defendent pleads the case,
With just a glimmer of a tear,
Cold eyes on a straight face.

But oh, that I could take the stands
If they could witness my last breath,
Could they live with the terror
That I went through in death.

If they could hear my pleading cries,
And see the hatred in that face,
At last, we'd know, the scales had
"Been balanced" in this case.

If I could, I'd tell the jury
Exactly how it was,
The fear and pain I went through
Struck down without a cause.

Did the jury carefully weigh it all
As they listened to the plea?
There were no emotions, showing now,
Just the hope of going free.

The final verdict now is in
As the defendant stands in tears,
If only I had done as well...
Given ten to twenty years.

Left Behind

Soft as the breeze, Harsh as the rain
When a loved one is Taken,
the Reality, the Pain.

I never knew a moment without her in my life
Now the Emptiness of her passing,
My Tears and Strife.

Living Life to the fullest,
Never knowing the End could be a day in
the blink of an eye, just around the bend.

I will miss her Always and Forever cry
For the Good times we Shared never knowing why.

I'll Look for her in Heaven
For one day I know We'll join
No more Pain, No more Sorrow,
Only Joy from within.

Forever my Sister but
Always My Friend.
I'll Miss You Always Dana,
Till I See You Again!

A Voice to be Heard

Mirrors show a reality
a look so often seen.
New bruises, shadow's past scars.
Make-up can no longer camouflage.
Bones mended, only to be broken again.
"Sorry baby, I love you. It won't happen again."
That is only his hang-over talking!

Forced upon, his unwanted moans.
Fear and pain, are my only pleasure.
This is his way of making love.
"Feels good, baby. A real turn on!"
That is his alcohol talking!

A caged animal, I've become
tortured, teased and made to perform.
Can anyone hear my roaring cries?
Actions rewarded only by fists.
If this is love, it HURTS too much.

Home from work, greeted by kicks.
My blood replaces his empty bottles.
Will he ever get his fill?
The mighty blows, ravage my body.
A battle I can no longer fight.
I close my eyes, as the red river flows
me to a world of no pain.

Sirens wail . . .
A voice finally heard.
But much too late. . . He now leaves in handcuffs,
the walls still echoing my desperate cries.
He looks back to all that is left,
a blood-stained carpet.
A tear strains from his eye, as he says . . .
"I really did love her."

"It's Up to You"
One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can hearld spring.
One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guid a ship to sea,
One word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to you!

"Don't Quit"

When things go wrong,
as they sometimeas will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must--but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow--
You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup.
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt--
And you can never how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

"State of Mind"

If you think you are beaten, you are;
if you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win, but think you can't,
it's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost;
for out in the world we find
success begins with a fellow's will;
it's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
you've got to think high to rise,
you've got to be sure of yourself
before you can win the prize.

Life's battles don't always go
to the stronger or faster man;
but sooner or later the man who wins
is the man who thinks he can.

"Heaven's Grocery Store"

One day I saw a sign that read
"Heaven's Grocery Store."
As I got a little closer the door
came open wide,
And when I came to myself I
was standing inside.
I saw a host of Angels, they were
standing everywhere,
One handed me a basket and
said, "My child, shop with care."
Everything a Christian needed
was in that Grocery Store,
And all you couldn't carry you
could come back the next day for
more.
First I got some Patience, Love
was in the same row;
Farther down was Understanding,
you need that everywhere you go.
I got a box or two of Wisdom,
a bag or two of Faith;
I just couldn't miss the Holy
Spirit, for He was all over the place.
I stopped to get some Strength
and Courage to help me run this race.
I didn't forget Salvation,
for Salvation was free.
So, I tried to get enough of that
to save both you & me;
Then I started to the counter to
pay my grocery bill,
For I thought I had everything to
do my Master's will.
As I went up the aisle, I saw
Prayer, and I had to put it in
For I knew when I stepped
outside I would run right into sin.
Peace and Joy were plentiful,
they were on the last shelf,
Song and Praises were hanging
near, so I just helped myself.
Then I said to the Angel,
now how much do I owe?
He just smiled and said, "Just
take them everywhere you go."
Again I smiled at Him and said,
"How much do I really owe?"
He smiled again and said,
"My child, Jesus paid your bill
a long time ago."
