| This is a map of our local area. Yarm itself has a population of between eight and nine thousand people. Its heart is the Georgian High Street, dating from the 18th century, and if you ignore the traffic, it must be one of the most attractive High Streets in the world! You can see from the map that the River Tees makes a loop, with the railway and the A67 going right through it. The railway goes over the river on a viaduct that was one of the wonders of the world when it was built in the first half of the 19th century. It has over 40 arches and contains seven and a half million bricks! |
