The 'Suburb' as farmland in 1968

This scene shows Roberts Line in the foreground as  metal road. The house on the right (and the farm sheds behind it) is now 117 Roberts Line. Peppertree Home is slightly right of centre in the foreground, while present-day Hillcrest Drive now meanders through the two farms shown fronting Roberts Line.

The boundary fences of the four small farms shown here fronting Roberts Line, indicates the old Stoney Creek Scandinavian Block, which ended at their back boundaries (also clearly shown above).

At this time Kelvin Grove subdivision was only two years old and it more or less amounted to only Karamea Cres. and Anakiwa Street, which are obscure on the right. The industrial property jutting into Kelvin Grove at the centre-back, is/was the concrete pipe manufacturer that is still there behind Kaimanawa Park and the Kelvin Grove Community Centre.
