More evidence revealed by Bali terror investigators
Indonesia's police chief has linked the radical Islamic group, Jema'ah Islamiyah, to
last month's Bali bombings, saying one of the group's leading members helped to
mastermind the blast.
As Mark Bowling reports from Bali, Police General Da'i Bachtiar made the allegation
after personally interviewing the prime suspect in the bombing case, Amrozi.
"He has confessed to General Bachtiar that he helped carry out the Bali bombings
and help plan others in Indonesia."
"Journalists and camera crews watched the interview through windows at the Bali
police headquarters."
Bowling says, "Amrozi sat calmly, wearing a prisoner's T-shirt, board shorts and
slippers."
"Across the desk the police chief asked the questions and the two men appeared to
share jokes. "
"Amrozi told the police chief that a leading member of the alleged terrorist group,
Jemaah Islamiyah, was involved in the Bali bombings...his name, Imam Samudra."
Bowling says the evidence suggests that, "He introduced Amrozi into the bombing
plot and provided money for Amrozi to buy bomb making equipment."
"Amrozi has apologised to his family for the bombings, but not the victims."
