Australians warned of Indonesian threats
The Australian government is urging citizens in Indonesia to return home after new
information of a possible terrorist attack this week.
The Department of Foreign Affairs says there's an increase threat of bomb attacks
and kidnap plots targeting westerners over the Christmas period.
The British and United States governments have issued similar warnings.
Lyndall Sachs from the Foreign Affairs department says the government is urging
Australians who choose to remain in Indonesia to exercise extreme caution.
"The new information focuses on possible terrorist action over the Christmas New
Year Period. There's been no change in the level of advice."
"What we've done is drawn to the attention of the Australian public that there are
threats against Asutralians and Australian interests in Indonesia that they remain high
and particularly over the Christmas new Year period Australians should defer all
non-essential travel."
