Tight security in Indonesia on Christmas day
Tight security has been imposed at churches across Indonesia, as it marks a solemn
Christmas Day.
Jakarta police say 300,000 police and soldiers have been deployed to safeguard the
city and its churches during Christmas celebrations.
Christians who attended late night mass at St Paul's in central Jakarta reported very
tight security, with dozens of police on duty and metal detectors installed at many
other churches.
President Megawati Sukarnoputri, flew to Biak in the predominantly Christian province
of Papua... to attend Christmas celebrations there, before heading to the Papuan
capital, Jayapura.
