Al-Qaeda suspect being questioned by Indonesian police
Reports from Indonesia say a reputed associate of the terrorist al-Qaeda group is
being questioned by Indonesian police on suspicion of involvement in terrorism.
The Koran Tempo newspaper says Abdul Wahid Kadungga (Ka-dOOng-ga) was
arrested in East Kalimantan province on Christmas eve, on suspicion of knowledge of
the deadly bombings in Bali and in Makassar in South Sulawesi.
The newspaper quoted Kodirun, police chief in the East Kalimantan capital
Balikpapan, as saying Kadunnga, aged 62, was detained after he arrived by plane
from the east Malaysian border.
Reuters news agency says police chief Kodirun could not be reached for immediate
confirmation, but the Indonesian Detikcom online news service reported that
Kadungga had been transferred to police headquarters in Jakarta and was being
questioned over suspected links to terrorism.
The Indonesian national police has confirmed that detectives were questioning
Kadungga but could not yet provide any details.
It's been reported that Kadungga also has links with the radical Jemaah Islamiya
group, whose spiritual leader is under police detention.
