PRESS RELEASE
Yesterday, Monday, November 18, the leaderships of ASNLF and of HDC met in
Stockholm for a discussion within the framework of the on-going peace process
between ASNLF and the Government of Indonesia (GoI).
The meeting was very fruitful in that it has been agreed that the parties would work
hard to resolve the matters that are still blocking the signature of the agreement for
ending hostilities and violence in Acheh. These questions are resolved then the
agreement will be signed any time after the end of Ramadhan. The leadership of
ASNLF and HDC thus agreed to meet again on December 9 for determining if these
questions have indeed been resolved and to set the definite date for the formal
signature of the agreement to end all hostilities and violence in Acheh as stipulated in
the Draft Agreement that will be made public at the time of signature.
The leadership of ASNLF takes this opportunity to stress that there has never been
any decision made by ASNLF or by HDC on the date of signature of the so-called
"Peace Agreement" as repeatedly announced by different high officials of the GoI. As
a matter of fact, no such agreement has been realized yet, and that at no occasion
did the ASNLF stated its acceptance of the autonomy packaged offered by Indonesia,
as reported widely by the Indonesian press. The ASNLF leadership stresses once
again its full and unwavering commitment to the Joint Statement signed by the parties
in Geneva on May 10 2002.
