The campaign to stop Proposed Interstate 66
Whereas:
The proposed routes for I-66 would:
* Destroy Farmland.
* Bypass local economies, replacing existing businesses with chain stores.
* Cut through the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest.
* Destroy extensive cave systems and threaten groundwater resources.
* Degrade the outdoors and outdoor recreation.
* Threaten rare plants, endangered species and the Rockcastle Wild & Scenic River, along with all the creeks and streams that flow from it.
* Create unacceptable noise levels and further ground, air and water pollution.
* Result in overcrowding and further degradation to Laurel River Lake and Lake Cumberland, both of which are currently at capacity.
* Displace local residents and destroy quality of life for those remaining.
We/our business/organization endorses KICK 66 campaign in calling for the proposed highway to be withdrawn. We ask that public officials start over with a study that:
* Realistically evaluates whether the highway is needed at all.
* Fully involves the public.
* Incorporates the best available natural resource data.
