Day 882
Entered uncharted system. Now 62 days since last saw "Clan Krish" in the flow. Would be good to find a place to stretch our legs and get some fresh fruit, plus to wash ship out (see Day 713, space slug encounters).

Day 897
Air planet, one dead moon. Central system body appears to be typical "Sun". The space here seems strangely empty. Planetary Locator shows two other worlds farther in, but there is a feeling as I look at the PL that the area between and around the planets is - barren - not natural. I managed to contain my reaction, Lt. Dam't didn't seem to notice. But come to think of it, he was staring at PL too...

Day 902
We have just been attacked by large lobster-like creatures. Larger than men, they flew into our envelope and targeted our weapons crews. Without Nitorak to use his lightening we would have lost more men. Seven of these creatures killed fifteen of my crew. We killed all but one, but I am now near minimum for crew, and morale can't help but be low. We will begin our return trip after examining this sphere.

Day 933
As we came within unaided visual range of the planet, rear lookout reported a large ship of unknown make running with great speed away from the planet, then entering jamming speed with a flash. Planet appears capable of life. Abundant water, healthy-looking clouds, large areas of land. Still nothing encountered since those lobster-creatures.

Day 934
Small patches of light on dark side proof of intelligent life. Item of note: Small continent on one side of planet (waterside) has large reddish glow coming from center at night. Does not appear to be fire, but is in center of large city. Not visible in day. Many bridges link this island-continent.

A war! Large fortified city seems on defensive v. armies from land and sea. War continues through the night. Can see fires and flashes that can only be of magical origin. Dam't says the crew is eager to finish this last mission and begin home. I have decided to take the Surveyor 2 in under cover of darkness for a final scout before embarking home.
