Why I chose Arranged Marriages

I attend Middle College High School, and for everyones senior year they have to do a Senior Project. For the first semestor of the year you do research and find out about your topic. This topic can range from Sexually Transmitted Diseases, to Import/Drag Racing, to Teen Prositutes, to Jelly Fish. Anything you want, even nude beaches. My topic is Arranged Marriages and another senior also did Arranged Marriages.
For the second semestor of the Senior Project class you work on the web page. They also throw in busy work such as monologs, and speeches. This is supposed to help us with our presentation skills because we're also supposed to present our web site about our senior project. I think that the busy work sucks because we, the students, take up a lot of time creating a web site. Especially since we have to add graphics and pictures, and if you really want a good grade, you have to add music in the background and animation. And guess how much school time we get to do all of this???? Go a head, guess......One almost full hour a week. WoW!!!! I take 3 hours a day at home for each page. And it's not at my house, it's at my boyfriends.  I guess life is just unfair like that.
Like I was saying, my senior project is on arranged marriages.  It’s interesting to learn about other cultures and their traditions.  I am really excited about my topic because it just blows me away to learn about my own culture as well as others.  It’s interesting to find out that another culture so different from your own has something in common with you.
Everyone has things to look forward to in life.  The only guaranteed things are death and taxes.  After that, there’s a little something called marriage.  Marriage is something everyone goes through, except for people like Ms. Horagan ( she’s my senior project teacher ), who are too immature to repeat some vows in the presence of a Priest because she thinks that they are ridiculous.  This woman is more than just 30 years old, and she still thinks weddings are silly.  Other than exceptions like her, everyone gets married.  Marriage has been going on forever.  It’s a union of a man and woman, or in times like today, man and man or woman and woman.  Most of these are love marriages, and some are those arranged marriages that make a girl want to die for freedom  In these arranged marriages, I want to know who does it and how.  I want to know the reasons why.  This is the reason that I chose to do my project on arranged marriages.
I want to know the age of the people who participate in these arranged marriages when they get married.  I want to know what the bride gets out of it, and what the groom gets out of it.  I want to know if they work out and why they don’t work out.  I want to know so much.  I want to know about the engagement ceremonies and traditional things they each have to do before they get ready.
All these questions are stuck in my mind and the answers, I have to do lots of work to find out.  In my senior project I have a survey and interviews to give me a little help in figuring things out.  There’s so much more I would like to learn.  I have learned lots and read even so much more, but I want to be at the weddings that go on.  I want to be there to see everything.  The engagements are just as important and I wish I could be there too. Everything I have learned, I would like to share with others, and I also have to in order for me to pass the class.  People might be able to find a little traditional history they have lost, or learn about some beautiful culture.  I want to share what I have learned.
