PETA

Peta has done some really stupid things in the past.  But now they have really thought up something stupid.  They are coming out with an add that says “ Drink beer not milk”.
This is because they feel that milk cows are mistreated.  I wish their was a brain in one of those folks.  Have they ever been to a dairy farm?  Why would a farmer mistreat his milk cow?  I am not saying it doesn’t happen, but the ones that do it are not in business for very long.  The cows are well treated here in Iowa, at least all that I have seen.
Peta has also release a large number of animals in the name of preventing  cruelty to animals.  But in return they have set back medical science decades.  Years of study have been lost that might have helped us cure illness and diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, aids, diabetes, and too many others to mention.
These idiots say that we are using animals in the wrong way.  That all animals lives are important.  I have not heard of them attacking a mouse trap factory?!  Why not ?  They regularly let lab mice go.  Look at some facts from the University of Minnesota.

 MYTH       FACT
1. Most animals used in research are
   cats, dogs, and monkeys
Greater than 90% of all research animals are mice, rats, and other rodents. Cats and Dogs account for less than 1% of all research animals, and monkeys even less
2. Most cats and dogs used in reseach
   are lost pets
According to the 1988 American       Humane Animal Shelter Reporting
Study, between 10.1 and 16.7 million
dogs and cats were euthanized in that
year alone. Less than 1% of the
unwanted animals schedules for
euthanasia were used in research
3. Lab animals suffer great pain and
  distress
In 1992, according to the
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture,
94% of research is not painful to the
animals involved. In the majority of cases (58%), animals are not exposed to or involved in any painful procedures. In about 36% of cases, animals receive anesthesia or
pain-relieving drugs during procedures that could involve some pain or distress.
In about 6% of research projects,
anesthetics or analgesics are not used because they would interfere with the  results of the research or testing. In fact, many of the procedures involving pain  are designed to better understand how we can treat people and animals who severe pain.
4. Other research methods can replace animals in biomedical research   Scientists are always searching for
improvements in their research tools and methods because, among reasons of humaneness, it is vital to their success.
This search has led to the development of many non-animal techniques that can facilitate answering parts of physiological
questions, and are, as such, adjunct
technologies. Unfortunately, these
adjunct technologies cannot come close to matching the great complexity of living systems, such as the brain. These methodologies, though useful and important for reducing the number of animals used, are limited in their applications. For example, a new drug developed in cell culture may be effective in treating a neurological disease, but could also cause liver damage. If it were not tested on animals, thousands of people could be harmed be this toxic side effect before it was discovered.
5. Cell culture technologies do not
require the sacrifice of animals
The majority of cell culture work is on animal cells, which came from (you
guessed it!) animals. Even those studies which make use of donated human cells need serum harvested from the blood of other animals to stay alive.
 6. There are no laws or regulations to
protect lab animals
A federal law, the Animal Welfare Act, sets standards for the care and treatment of laboratory animals, including housing, feeding, cleanliness, ventilation, and veterinary care.
7. Scientists can do whatever they
 want to animals.
All experimentation involving animals must be approved in advance by an animal care and use committee,
consisting of at least one non-scientist
and a veterinarian. These committees will not approve proposals unless both the scientific merit and ethical treatment of animals are demonstrated. In addition, animal care facilities must be federally licensed and are subject to surprise inspections to ensure that high standards are being maintained at all times.
8. Money spent on animal research is
only dealing with cures, and prevention is a better approach.
Animal reseach has played a vital role in prevention studies. For example, most of what we know about the causes of heart diseases came about as a result of studies using dogs.
Let us hope that someday we do not have to use animals.  But I would rather see a million rats die than 1 human.  I have seen the devastation that cancer causes.  I have seen the horror of a family member that died too soon.  If animal experimentation can stop this then I am gun ho.  Let’s stop PETA in their tracks before they have us kissing rattlesnakes.  Or have they already done that?
